Raising Sail While on Trailer

I would like to make some adjustments to sail and rigging on my 26M. I would like to raise the main sail while the boat is on the trailer in my yard. Obviously I would do this with a calm wind if possible. Has anyone ran into a safety issue while doing this? if you have done this, please tell me what I need to look out for.

I've done it. As you said, don't raise them in high winds or if a T-storm is moving in.

When My peas are ready to be picked , I put Dauntless to work , by unfurling the genoa a few feet , let the wind/breeze move it around and make noise to keep the deer out of My pea patch :D BTW....My mainsail has a grommet ( only one ) between two of the battens .... I don't know what it is for,and can't see Others sail pics well enough to tell :( One last thought.....just remember that if the mainsail knocks You overboard , You won't have to swim to catch up.....but the ground is harder :!: :D Ron.

Mrron can you put up a pic of your grommet? My first guess is it's a reef point but that seems a bit obvious. Second guess... If it's near the mast between upper battens it might be a purchase point for a downhaul line. Maybe someone began to build a sail flake system and stopped after the first grommet?

Whispyjac : After My senior moments passed , I realized that it was for reefing the mainsail :o Thanks for the reply :) Ron.

+1

Our masts make great hazard for overhead power lines.

I raise the sails all the time on the trailer but I too would be afraid to do it in a strong wind. There is a lot of power there. I'm sure it could roll the trailer if it's not attached to a car or jacked up.

(Hey, that gives me an idea! perhaps we can design a steerable front wheel for the trailer?)

Throw that Trailer Valet on the front and relocate the helmsman.

Wow, that would be really cool to sail my boat to the marina! (I would still need a car to get it down the ramp) I need to see if there are any bridges between my house and the harbor! :)
