Got up, breakfast with Admiral.

Prep harpoon and kayaks for a sail

" honey, I don't think the dryer is working"

Downstairs, snapped belt.

Parts store call, has part, closes at 12, due at lake at 1130.

Speed through setup, on road at 1030.

Pick up part on way, find I have balance at shop, so I get part for free plus 20 bucks ice cream money.

Get up to lake at 1130, old crappy launch has been renovated with a gorgeous ramp, turnaround and parking.

Light air with occasional puffs, then at 1400 we get about 30 minutes of consistent 12 knots and I get the 5.2 up on plane. Wow does this thing power up!

I give Caitlin the boat for junior sailing, I grab a kayak and paddle around admiring turtles, herons, , kingfishers

1600 ..pack up and head home. Sausage and greens just cooking as we pull in.

Crack a bottle of wine, eat out on the deck.

After dinner, install dryer belt and voila, dryer is back on line.

Lights out at 2130....

And my :macx: is still sitting at the in-laws', under it's tarp with a giant silver maple tree raining helicopter samaras on it. It has to go before they show up on Saturday, but that's a long way from sailing. :(

That's the definition of a good day!

Having money on account at the appliance repair depot means you do WAY too much of your own work :-)

I've found it takes less time to fix stuff than waiting for people to co me to do it, with some notable exceptions of IT services in San Diego.

By the way, a gas dryer is basically a metal box with a huge fire inside. If you go inside one being used with a family of 6 you will never forget to vacuum it out every year.

Update on pricing in upstate NY

Trip & Diagnosis Fee – $75.00**

Labor Rates – Flat Rate at $94*

Part was $40

So total charge if I had farmed this out would be $209 on a 20 year old dryer - about 1/4 its current cost.
