Hi all - just wondering if anyone has any news on the Tattoo 22 - specifically pricing and availability.

Is it reasonable to expect it will be less expensive than a Tattoo 26?

Sailing magazine, June 2014, has an article on the Tattoo 22. It's basically a generic article on the design with some specs. O.b.e. $25,000 (sans engine). O.b.e. = (magazine) Our Best Estimate

Thanks. Isn't that the same price as the 26? I was hoping it would be somewhat cheaper. I suppose it's just a guess at this point.

The nearest dealer to my hometown (dealer is in Nebraska) lists the Tattoo 26 with trailer at $24,900.. It doesn't make sense that the Tattoo 22 would be a higher cost boat.

If the demand is great enough - then it could cost more. The price will be what people are willing to pay.

The 22 is going to be a different type of construction with an epoxy/core hull, which will be stronger and more expensive than the FRP 26. Lower VOC emissions during manufacture as well.

I expect it'll be about the same price as the 26, and your choice will be determined by your needs rather than by the price.

It's really hard to get below the cost of the 26M. A Potter 19 costs more new.

The Potter 19 is not even close to the Tatto 22.
I have had a Potter 19 for 2 years and equipped it with all the Nav. stuff I needed including Frig.,Autopilot, GPS Nav. ETC.
It still remains a daggerboard that has water coming up thru the trunk.
Think the new way of doing it in having a longer trunk board (like the MacM)
Seaward seems to master it.
We will see how it goes.
The Potter19 and Sanibel 18 are both great small boat cruisers and Costs would be about $26K out the door, Fully equipped.

That's a really good point. Every now and again I get bitten by the "2 foot" bug. I shop around, but 30-32 ft sailboats in reasonable condition cost far more than my . And would cost far more to store, transport, and slip.

My gut tells me the 22 will be more expensive than the 26.

For several reasons:

A. That would prevent the 22 from cannibalizing the existing 26 market,

B. The 22 is much more expensive to build than the 26 - a LOT more labor - every square inch of the epoxy core hull has to be sanded by hand to get a smooth finish - it's not cheap.

C. The market for the 22 is bigger than the market for the 26 because cars, families, yards and driveways keep getting smaller and smaller as the U.S. moves further and further into third world status.

D. The 22 will be the fastest sailboat under power ever produced and will be nipping at the heels of the cuddy cruiser market and placing it in competition with 30 thousand dollar daycruiser ski boats.

Larsen, Bayliner, and a few other manufactured of small power boats with cabins should be worried in my opinion - I think if the T22 is as fast as I think it will be under ballasted power it may deliver a ride comparable to a 21 foot bayliner.

If the boat delivers as Tattoo promises it will be a very expensive boat - and worth it too. (I might even get one for use in my more elderly years)

I suspect that the Tattoo 26 will be phased out shortly after the release of the 22.

The 26 design is now pretty long in the tooth. Perhaps after a few years, they'll release something to replace it. I would really like to see them come out with a dedicated sailboat similar to the 26C. Two boats, one 22' motor sailor and one 26 sailboat would make a great product line.

Interesting point. I think the 26's longivity is the reason for it's success. Just had a colleague out today, and he is now enthusuatically considering getting a 26 of his own - he has kids also.

For a family, the 22 may be perceived as a bit small/cramped vs. the 26.

Tattoo 22 and 26 are peas and carrots....different markets
