Time to try something different

Next weekend the 7th Feb we are taking our

to Barumba Dam for some lake sailing in fresh water. For those not in the know Barumba Dam is about 12klms west of Imbil in the forrest, it is only about 7 klms long and about 1 klm wide but is very pretty with the forrest coming all the way down to the waters edge. I dont expect much sailing but it will be very relaxing and we will be able to have a camp fire by the boat over night. I will take lots of photos and see if any are worth posting next week. Best part is fresh water showers and no salt. If this works well for us we may do lake Barahmbah at Easter which is about 100klms west of Gympie. Anyway this will be very different from what I am used to so should be interesting. Cheers, Dennis.

Should be interesting, too populated for us but we did stop at the caravan park at Lake Monduran and fished around for a few days in the dinghy about July, there were dead Barra everywhere from the cold.
Don't forget to post how it went.

HI Dennis,
We were thinking of doing that last year, we drove out there to check out the place before we towed our

there, well it is very well patronize by water skiers and the ramp is very very steep, even the sky boats had trouble getting out of the water make sure your hand brake is working well or use a very big rock and use four wheel drive! The road after Imbil is very narrow and windy, as you said the dam itself is not very big but very deep. We decide this dam (Borumba Dam) is not for us just to small.
Bjelke-Petersen Dam also named Barambah Dam might be the way to go, much larger.
We are going to check out Boondooma Dam soon, its about an hour and a half's drive from our place, about 150klms west of Maryborough. We will be taking are cray pots for red claw are abundant there Yum
We still would like to here how it was on Borumda Dam post lots of pics. Hope the weather is fine for you.
Cheers

Hi Fresh, as I said in the original post, if we like it we may spend Easter at Barambah Dam. The skiing isn't too bad at Borumba because they are not allowed past a certain point about half way down the dam, besides we are going on a normal weekend so traffic will be minimum. The ramp is steep but doesn't scare me at all, I have 4wd and will use it, a lot of the skiers have trouble there because many of them have 2wd utes which just dont get traction. Anyhow I will soon know and yes I will post a report with pics. Cheers.

All bets are off, i just can't catch a break, turns out th at SEQwater state that overnight stays are not permitted on any of the dams under their control. Regardless they have just closed Borumba dam due to green algae bloom.
So no lakes for me any time soon.

Whilst not prohibited staying overnight on some NSW dams it involves a Gov't dept....you know "we are here to help you"....no seriously we were going to go to Copeton dam at Xmas.....had to get permission from the dept of water resources......I think that's what they called this month.Any way we had to prove total containment but when it came to it they advised against an 18metre or so rig when they get 5000-10000 people there ....or so they say
Their attitude was too big ...no secure parking if any parking etc etc etc so may be when its quieter

Went copton years ago but only with the dinghy before the mac but it was pretty cold and didn't think it was really interesting although supposed to be good fishing, wouldn't be much fun with everyone there though but ample camping and the rig size shouldn't be a problem.

All is not lost Dennis,
I just contacted Bjleke-Peterson Dam and asked the question "Can we stay on the water over night?" and the answer was
Yes

No need for a permit to sail or motor. Permits for fishing though.
So we might take a drive this weekend to check the place out before we tow our

there.
It's not far from us just a little over an hour west.
