I appreciate the general concern to prevent terminal boredom, but it has been in single digit temperatures here in Maryland the past few days. I do not think I really want to watch a movie about a bunch of guys freezing to death And starving.

I hear ya there.

However, the Shackelton story is fascinating.

Captain Frank Worsley was probably one of the greatest navigas whoever lived.

Absolutely incredible what he was able to do.

I hear you. Third day in a row that the schools have been closed. Nobody is likin' this in Southern Maryland.

Pfft! It's not even starting to get cold yet School here is madatory only after -45'c (-49'F) and they stay open no matter what just in case kids show up and no ones home. I was made to go at all temperatures. Coldest I remeber was -58'c (-72 'F) no wind at these temps, thats jsut dead cold.

That being said its +10'c ( 50'f) here today and has been this warm for the past two weeks. Thinking about paitning the bottom of the boat today

That was very interesting. Amazed they could sail that boat at all as I do not think life boats had any kind of keel so to speak. That entire trip was nuts.

The story of Shackleton is an epic tale for all time. What this guy did in the face of adversity is astounding. And I am not just talking about the boat trip to South Georgia to save his men in the end. It is truly a great story to read. These modern day guys tho...holy smokes! Talk about taking risks! It didn't look that cold tho on the hike. Not like what we're used to eh Bob? Having said that and the big melt down we having in the Yukon right now...nice to be on the warm end of the stick for a change!

Sort of…ski hills destroyed, here and in Alaska, and I'm a little concerned if there'll be any snow left to go find a bison. Unless we get another good dump of snow it's going to be a long brown spring

Not sure what you mean by the ski hill destroyed?? Its in great shape for this time of year (of course this is a relative statement - we're talking Mt Sima here) I did hear they closed the X country trails yesterday to save them from getting wrecked. Good thing we had double the normal snow fall in December or we would be brown now! Don't get too excited - we've still got at least two and a half months of winter to go yet!

Now that we're back below zero all that soft warm snow is gonna be like concrete. Juneau lost over a foot of snow at their summit this last week it's done this lots before and been dry and cold all the way into April. I noticed yesterday all the sled tracks in the ditches are showing dirt and the grass is poking up under a lot of trees. Now if it would only melt around the boat I won't have to shovel as much.

Hey, nobody said it had to be a serious movie.

Of course, the downside of watching that movie, for me at least, with all that clear, pretty Caribbean water, is that I start thinking about those among us boating in the Keys, or Hawaii, or the Land Downunda (during our winter, at least), and how they're out doing it while I'm holed up in my subterranean hovel, toiling away.
