It's an old chat protocol, mostly used by hackers and computer types prior to facebook twitter and google chat, contemporary with AOL. Anyone could run their own private server. It's still around and used on some forums as well.Litlyacht wrote:what is ICQ ?

Re: posting a pic
For those using Picasa web albums I found this helpful
(Local pictures in Picasa have to be posted to a web album and the album has to be shared first as 'limited- anyone with the link)
In the Picasa web album, click on the picture you want to post.
On the right side of the new window, click on Link to this Photo.
Select the size. If the image is wider than 640 pixels, select Medium-640 640 px
Select Image only (no link)
Click on the Embedded Image URL and copy it.
Click the Img button in the forum post window
paste the URL from picasa in the post

Yeah. A total waste of time for me was the chat room section of an internet course I took in the 90's that dealt with this.Litlyacht wrote:

CQ is also a pro-sign (shortcut) used when putting out a general call to any station over ham radio. I had assumed that it meant Internet CQ, The I seek you interpretation could work as well.

I don't want to steal this thread but I don't know where else to ask. How can I change my avatar to a pic of my choice? I think I have to resize it but I don't know how.

ICQ (I seek you) was one of the first Instant Messenger clients. Was pretty cool in it's day, but there are so many others now. Trillian supports most formats.
Why was Litlyacht asking about ICQ?

I assumed there was a reference to it in the hyperlink in taime's post, which I didn't follow. Why was Litlyacht asking about ICQ?
Because it might not be apparent to everybody, and it's conceivably pertinent,

Wow, I've heard that name for almost 40 years and never made the connection. Duh. Of course. Secure!seahouse wrote:Because it might not be apparent to everybody, and it's conceivably pertinent,I'll also point out that the name brand "CQR" anchors read "secure" out loud.
