I'm sure the topic must have come up from time to time, but has anyone here installed a hard dodger on a Mac? I noticed one on an :macm: in this ad:

That to me looks like a hard top bimini over the companionway and not a true dodger unless they have sides and front that are snapped into place to deflect spray and rain while underway. I would rather have a regular dodger instead of giving up the main sheet traveler that I see is missing in these pics.

Traveler attached atop the dodger perhaps :) ?

Given the trailable nature of a Mac...and the need to be able to do highway speeds...will this be a problem!!??

That wd be my preference, though on a bridge in front might also work, per the 2nd pic on the Tartarooga page:

Had that arrangement on my last boat, with mid-boom sheeting. Was nice to get the traveller out of the cockpit.

Unless I'm missing something, I think you would have to remove, or at least lower the front end of the dodger, to step the mast.

Didn't think of that...we have to lower our dodger to raise our mast and we carry our mast above head height in the cockpit ie our dodger can be up whilst the mast is in travelling position

My PO had an extension made for the mast crutch so that the bimini can say up while he drops the mast. He used the boat primarily for inland waterways with lots of bridges.

We have a radar tower of a larger boat cut down which carries the mast and solar panels etc

Any of the UK based members know if anything like this is available in the UK (postal costs are crazy from the US)..
