To document information from another thread...

On a recent trip we powered our loaded :macx: (crew of 4, one weeks provisions) with our 4 HP $ stroke Nissan auxiliary.

We achieved 3 knots in moderate seas, 1-2 foot waves, 3-4 foot swells. Cavitation and engine flooding were both problems.

In calm seas, we achieved 4 knots. We were able to transit Westport MA gut at full tide, running through at 0.9-1.5 knots at peak flow.

You really need a long shaft motor to use these as kickers in anything but near calm conditions, IMHO.

Addition to report - we also had a 10 foot plastic tender in tow, weight 100#, with an Optimist dinghy on top - another 60 pounds...and a Tohatsu 2.5 lashed in between - another 30 pounds..
