Performance report 4 HP 4stroke powering MAC X

On a recent trip we powered our loaded
(crew of 4, one weeks provisions) with our 4 HP $ stroke Nissan auxiliary.
We achieved 3 knots in moderate seas, 1-2 foot waves, 3-4 foot swells. Cavitation and engine flooding were both problems.
In calm seas, we achieved 4 knots. We were able to transit Westport MA gut at full tide, running through at 0.9-1.5 knots at peak flow.
You really need a long shaft motor to use these as kickers in anything but near calm conditions, IMHO.
