Sharks, Everyone Out Of The Water!!!

What an exciting camping trip on the boat so far. It started when we anchored on the sandbar (Kaneohe, Hawaii). I let the kids off the boat and convinced Nikki Wood (my wife) to not worry about them walking over and making friends with kids from other boats. What could happen. It was only 3.5 ft deep. It is like they were playing in a mud puddle, I told her. Then. Two minutes later seven individual 10 foot sharks made their way towards our boat. Nikki and I jumped over the side of the boat and were running to the kids yelling at them to get in the boats close by to them. They wouldn't move and people were just staring at us. So I had to yell sharks!!! Really loud. That got everyone's attention. Those big sharks circled our boat for about three minutes while nikki, Ajalae and Ethan were on one random persons boat, and Oliver a I on another persons boat. With everyone out of the water, the sharks hung around for another five minutes or so then left. Now it is night time and everyone's asleep. I am outside listening to the big fish flopping around eating the small fish. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!!! It ended up being seven hammerheads. But you sure couldn't tell by the 14-15 inch fins out of the water headed your way. I am convinced that my urine in the water probably saved everyone. lol! :D I think the sharks accidentally got into shallow water and got flustered. It was quite a frenzie! But how many people ever get to yell "SHARKS, EVERYONE OUT OF THE WATER"?

Not positive but I think something like 75% of all shark attacks occur in less than 4ft. of water. sounds like they were hungary to me.

Kaneohe Bay is known as a place where young hammerheads hang out. Perhaps they breed there too.

Because 90% of the time people are in less than 4 ft of water.

Worst shark attack ever? USS Indianapolis: http://dsc.discovery.com/tv-shows/shark ... attack.htm

"Studies suggest sharks despise a face, or mouthful, of soap. Components like sodium and lithium lauryl sulfate irritate a shark's delicate gill filaments. Sodium ions rush in from the water and basically freak out sharks. Liquid ivory soap seems to work particularly well."

We have soap on Soggy Paws - and we've NEVER seen a shark. :P

I've been known to wash, with soap sometimes, and I've never been attacked, so it must work. :|

Reminds me of the story of the guy who worked at the Hershey plant and fell into a vat of chocolate. He yelled FIRE and everyone came running. They asked why he yelled fire and he replied that if he yelled chocolate no one would have come. :) Fair Winds and Full Sails...Old Salt

am convinced that my urine in the water probably saved everyone
Growing up and diving off the warm Caribbean waters of Venezuela, I was always told not to pee on the wetsuits because it attracts sharks. At first I thought it was just the rental stores trying to keep their wetsuits clean, but even when I had my own the dive guides or locals would keep repeating this point. Apparently, urine signals to a shark that a fish is hurt in a much lesser way than blood. Also, urine does not completely go away from around the body as quickly as you would expect, has anyone learnt that the hard way in a swimming pool with the urine dyes?
Others say that this is just baloney because human urine is very different than fish urine. I would say that surfers are very different than seals as well, but they get confused all the time. I know that sharks have better noses than eyes but I will stick to my urban legend. At the end of the day, all that matters is if you can swim faster than the diver next to you

Maybe the Aussies have better ways to deal with their larger sharks...
