26 M Query. Little Holes Above the Rudders?

Post by Bobglas »

Little holes maybe 1/4" a few inches above each rudder. What is? Where do they lead? :?: :macm:

I don't have an :macm: , but could they be fore pinning the rudders in the up (trailering) position, for travel security?

I see what you mean, I think. The ones in the hull, about 3 inches above the rudder brackets, right? That is a great question :!: I look forward to finding out, since they have no use. Maybe for moving that section of the hull while being built. I forgot all about that, since they are hidden well by the rudders when the wheel is straight. Once someone who actually knows chimes in, I have a feeling they will be getting plugged. I more tiny hole (or 2) that may be letting rain water in. I seem to doubt it though. Will surely let sea water in when the sometimes necessary emergency reverse order is given.

Good eye,

Erik

Cheryl McChesney wrote:The "Mystery Holes" are vent holes for the rudder dam inside the boat. When motoring fast in the 26M, like the M19, the internal rudder post needs to be inside a dam as water builds up inside and the holes releive the dam so that water does not go inside the boat! Do not plug them up! They are very important and the boat is designed to have them. If anything make sure that they are not plugged with dirt or anything else. You guys with the 26X do not have the mystery holes because your rudders are external. Kinda a boy versa girl thing!
(emphasis is mine)

For some reason I thought he was talking about holes in the rudders themselves. Doh! :D

"Better to appear and idiot than to speak and remove all doubt"
Whatever !!!

I believe it is a maritime tradition to name your boat after a woman who loves you. Well mine is named after my mother, or as us PA natives would say, after my mUm.
Glad my boat is a girl!!!

Thanks you 2 for the great info.
