Anyone here with this boat in Hawaii? I searched and came across references of Hawaii but no real posts that covered what I was looking for.

How does the boat do in the Pacific in Hawaii? Does the boat roll a lot at anchor?

Any boat will roll at anchor. Unless its aground or in really shallow water.
The M is round as a bottle underneath. However due to the high center of gravity this is not as bad as it would appear. She rolls less then my v22 in a given condition. All boats have a wave condition that will get them going. My instinct is about a foot snd a half high waves would get the m rolling. I doubt she would roll badly in a long period ground swell like maybe that would come in around a breakwater but i could be wrong. I anchor in areas with a lot of winddriven chop but no deep water. Shes very comfortable.

Reminds me of the time I set sail for Hawaii out of Marina Del Rey with my M - - - sailed for about an hour - - - then turned around and went back to my slip and watched Monday Night Football on the boat. After MNF, I went out and played poker. I thought that would make for a better evening than being hopelessly lost in the Pacific!

At anchor roll, while small in a Macgregor (X vs M?), is simple to minimise by having full ballast and all boards down. Kinda nice to sleep to once you get used to it....

Made me think - a Mac in fresh water would move less than one in salt water due to the height difference from buoyancy elevation....

Just had my new 26M delivered in November (to Hawaii). Have taken it out on one bad day (i.e. stupid), one so-so day (strong gusts), then today, which was fair, but on the other end of the spectrum. I did a test sail from Arena Yachts in SF bay, and it was sweet. Out in the Pacific with the winter trades, it's wearing me out quickly (about 4 hours, and I'm exhausted). The gusts come up quick, and the wind changes directions quickly (well, at least from Pokai bay). Two things I need: 1) Get better with more practice, 2) talk to someone who's sailed out here before.
I had my 26M at 50-60 deg heel on the first day out. Wasn't fun at all. Of course, shouldn't have been out. (20-30 kt winds, but I think gusts were a bit stronger). 2nd time, only went over 40 deg a couple of times. Today, never went over 20. I have a Genoa, which I'm thinking was a mistake. Today I eventually took the reef out the of the Main, but never fully unfurled the genoa (roller furler).
I'm what you might call a novice. Appreciate hearing from anyone who has sailed these waters (in a Mac).

We have anchored-out overnight many times while gunkholing on the Pacific coasts around Vancouver Island BC. I have never bothered to set more than 1 anchor (a Bruce-type claw with 30' of good chain on the rode). Traditionally I tend to seek quiet bays and shallow water for overnight anchorages. But more recently I have found that any upwind shore is a good bet (ie. just off the shore - I have never actually beached Kittiwake). The only rolling we get 'at anchor' is in marinas when some idiot goes by above the civilized speed limit ... which is what has led us on occasion to leave the marina and seek out an upwind shore.

The thing we notice (as have many others) is that the Mac tends to 'sail' a lot at anchor - ie. it slides laterally in the breeze, swinging like a horizontal pendulum on its anchor rode. Perhaps one reason we don't roll is that, given the above anchoring style, we tend to lie at 90 degrees to the waves.

If it helps - after 4 hours of active sailing (tacking, etc.) on Lake Michigan, I'm pooped too.

It would have a proportionally longer roll period to the increase in draft and a decrease in roll angle. I suppose that constitutes "less", but I also think it would be indiscernible.
