....that we need to do something . Before the last trip we bought some 6 gallon containers like ....



.... the one Ruth has in front of her. They have an easy on/off screw lid that seals watertight. We didn't put all of that mess into them, but a lot of it. You are looking at over 1 month's worth of supplies.

We used .....



.... duct tape on the containers to tell us what was in them and then would mark things off or add new tape if we changed the contents. As they emptied they were filled with trash.

The boat schematic you posted would be a good idea for us to use with the containers above and the other ones we use, but I guess unless someone posts one we will have to make a different one for our S. I'll show yours to Ruth, I'm sure she will like it as she is way more organized than I am ,

Our Scout group used the large screw top, round containers.. they used them when canoeing for years...

We were given some (out of the excess) for our boat as well...

Turns out that restaurants use these things -and they often give them away... watertight... with a handle.. perfect for our camping and boat needs.. We don't mind the extra space over a square container.. we do like the rugged plastic and free cost...

Most of my friends have cats, so they give me their discarded Kitty Litter Storage Containers (joke away boyz) when it's empty. Because of its rectangular shape, the 35lb containers stack GREAT within the holds with very little wasted space. I fit 5-6 in the fwd dinette section. After a good cleaning, I mark them with a "Sharpie" permanent Marker: IE: DRY GOODS, SNACKS, etc. Th 27lb containers work as well. The handles allow you to bring them to and from the boat easily enough should you choose to bring them home to fill. Been using 'em for years.

If using discarded Kitty Litter Storage Containers irk you (even after washing), you can use the Kitty Food containers which come in the same size.

Free is good , but if one can't find them they aren't that much....

... about $4.00 each. We also got the color coordinated bottoms, a woman thing , but the lids will also work with the free 5 gallon buckets are the ones that cost about $2.50 at Home Depot. We have also used the square bulk laundry soap containers and 5 gallon buckets with the snap-on lids. The screw lids are by far the easiest to get in and out of though and the height of them works well in the aft berth area that we use for storage. We took the foam pad out of there for more headroom and it makes it a lot easier to move things around back there.

What follows might me more info than one wants, so if you are a little squeamish about reading about human waste disposal you might want to hit the "back button" now :

We got the screw on lids to also use in the storage of the Double Doodie bags, but we have now switched to the cheap 5 gallon containers with the snap on lids from Home Depot. The lids are harder to take off and on, but we only have to add a bag about every 3 days so that isn't a biggie. We might be the only one on here using the bags for the john, but we find that we can put 6 bags into a 5 gallon container, about 16-20 days use for us. The one problem we found is that when we take out weeks later that with the bags stored in there on top of each other that one or two might seep some liquid out. Then when emptying the container at the end of the trip that can be a possible mess with associated smell. Now using the $2.50 containers we just throw the whole 5 gallon bucket in the dumpster. That eliminates the mess and any possible smell from putting the individual bags in the dumpster. The $4.00-$5.00 cost for a month is well worth it for us.

We have never noticed the seepage while filling and adding bags to the bucket. I think the problem only happens after time and if you are out for a weekend or even a week or two you won't have that problem. We are still dedicated Double Doodie/Wag Bag users as we don't like trying to find pump-outs or places to dock and haul a porta-pottie to. Those places can be hard to find even in a populated area like Florida's coast and keys and if you go into the 10,000 Island area or the Everglades except for Everglades City forget finding a place to dump or pump-out. We did our whole 2 month trip last spring on 2 5 gallon buckets and disposed of them back on land after the trip ended. I don't see anyway that we could of gone where we did with a porta-pottie or even a smaller holding tank,
