Seeking cheap winter storage near Toronto

Post by enufsed »

Hi folks. I have the opportunity to store my boat inexpensively for the winter at a location that's about two hours drive from Toronto (where my boat sits in the water currently). I'm interested in finding inexpensive winter storage at a location that's closer. I generally rent a U-Haul truck for long trailering to save wear and tear on my vehicle which is a bit underpowered for that, so it'd be a benefit to be somewhat local (e.g., within 45 minutes of the city, give or take) so my truck rental is local.

Of course, if the storage is at a local marina, the benefit is that I don't have to rent a truck at all, and can just sail the boat to its trailer. So I'd consider a local marina.

Alternatively, I don't mind paying for the U-Haul if the non-marina storage is really cheap (yet secure). In which case it needs to be in the $200 range to be worthwhile.

Ideas?

Hi

Other than my fellow Macers above

I am in the same boat
So to speak

Live in Toronto
Gave up on the idea of leaving my Mac in a slip all summer as that was just not working out at this point in my life

I now keep her on the trailer all year
Plan out my sailing trips
Few days here few days there

And like most people in the city, I have no room for my Mac between Times
So I have to find a place to keep her

I have been very fortunate to have met Highlander on this site
He has a huge place with room for several Macs
At one point having 3 in his driveway at one time

But he is moving away
So I now need to find another spot for her

There are so many places around where I live
But they all cost too much
So like you and many others
I go North
Find a farm somewhere
And park it there
Which is less than ideal to be sure

If I find something closer
I will let you know

Cheers

G
