After 2 years the dealer power washed and waxed my m, blue hull, and now the white non skid has specks of blue all over, I guess they just were too rough with buffing or something and took off some of the gelcoat??, so I now I see the blue layer underneath coming through, showing up as hundreds of very small speckles of blue. any recommendations? should I just paint it with white nonskid WM paint? doesn't show up anywhere else other the nonskid surfaces.

this may relate to the previous discussion of thin gelcoat issues, but my problems seem to be mostly on the non skid horizontal surfaces

Is it just the tops of the little nonskid bumpies? If the white is going away, exposing the underneath color, the only way to fix it is paint. If it is a blue colored substance from somewhere else like soap residue then that's an easier fix.

The blue hull and the white deck are manufactured separately and joined during assembly. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong, but all of the anti-skid surface is on the deck section. Aggressive power washing or buffing cannot reveal blue beneath the gel-coat on horizontal deck surfaces because no blue is used in the construction of the deck. The only thing you might see is the tan colored fiberglass lay-up under the gel-coat.

My guess is that the buffer was throwing small particles of wax that were tinted blue when they were waxing the blue hull. I would think they would disappear in a few months when the wax wears off the white deck from normal weathering.

On a small section of the non-skid white deck surface put a small amount of regular household bleach and rub it in with a cloth or sponge for a couple of seconds and let it stand for (1)one minute before rinsing, the speckles should go away completely. If not, then I don't know what your problem is, but there's no blue under the white deck surface for sure. I have blue hull and clean my deck with bleach ALL the time, I rinse the entire boat down real good afterwards and I've never had a problem with the Black stripes or Blue hull by doing that and my deck is spotless. Got Bleach ?

Yea that was what I was thinking.... But it could as well be "knockoffs" Chips...in the gel coat.. But even I have only a few a very few of these.. I have a few of them from when ( dont ask...!) I droooppped the Mast Raiser ...

Take a cotton rag with Acetone and gently rub it off. The Acetone will take off the wax also so you need to rewax. Rince with fresh water and work at small sectons at a time.

Gelcoat or Polyester resin doesn't bond well to Epoxy if you need to make repairs in future.
At the subject...those who want to repair scratches or small dinks do not use Epoxy like Marine Tex, use Polyester Gelcoat or resin. You can thicken these with Micro ballon additive to create a paste.

I didn't say it was in possiable, leave it to the professionals. I don't want amatures to do epoxy without knowing the facts. I don't suggest it here and won't. Polyester resin and Gelcoat (Same) is hard to bond to epoxy unless you are a Pro.

Probably wont ....last.. All I did was wash the boat and with two Q-tips .. One for acetone and then wipe and One dipped in One Part Epoxy ( yea one part Epoxy is that like Grande Shrimp ?? Hummmm) Quick Fix .. 2 beers time ...looks nice for now ..

Thanks for all the tips, cleaning with 7th generation cleaner and a soft plastic brush and water rinse seemed to work best, and took off most of the speckles, A few deeper damaged spots did show dark blue below the white gelcoat, like the crease where the seat comes down too hard at times, so there is blue layer beneath, but the smaller spotsare fewer in number now and I could touch them up some time with white skid surface paint or even small amounts of gelcoat. problem mostly solved for now, thanks
