Ok, does anyone have the exact measurements of where the pivot hole is in the centerboard for a 1999 Mac X?

I recently lost my centerboard... uh... let me rephrase that... I know where it is... at the bottom of the Pamlico Sound.

So I have a new centerboard on the way from Blue Water Yachts (thanks BWY) and want to make sure I drill the hole in the right place.

I am also having a modification done to add Stainless Steel plates that is on my website from another person:




So the TV station (where I work) asked if I could use my boat to go film video of a capsized fishing boat... Hmmm... work at the desk or work on the boat.. duh.

So I gassed up the boat and went and launched at Oriental with one of our reporters. I did warn the reporter that it will be rough out in the sound, 3-4 ft waves and 10-15 mph winds. Luckily she has previous experience on sailboats, so seasickness was not an issue. So I was in 1-2 ft waves doing about 22mph (thanks to the new 90hp engine) when all of a sudden she heels hard over 50+ degrees, and a wave comes up over the cockpit and soaks me... I thought we were going over all the way. I was able to grab the throttle and shut it down and the boat slowly came back up.

So one of two things may have happened... we hit a whale on one side, or the centerboard suddenly dropped at 22 mph... yea and no water ballast in. The reporter survived but was slightly shaken up... and changed her mind about wearing a life jacket.

Pulled up the centerboard line... nothing left on the end except a frayed wire... ok so the board is down. I jump down below and look for damage or leaks.... none... and strangely silent... I don't hear the centerboard slapping the sides of the trunk... most likely because I don't have one anymore.

Yup, it's gone.

So...does anyone have the exact measurements of where the pivot hole is in the centerboard for a 1999 Mac X?

Erik, I think a made a template of the centerboard when I replaced mine in '03---2001 model. The new one came pre-drilled. Mine old centerboard is also lying in the bottom of the Pamlico just west of Cedar Island. (No hi-speed that time. Just a nasty nor'easter. Snapped in 6-8' chop. But I didn't have 130 lbs of lead in mine.) I also have an Idasailor centerboard you could use as a template. If I find the paper one, I could mail you a copy if you like.

Actually, I am working on the board this weekend so if you can send measurements that would help. Blue Water Yachts was telling me that the centerboards might be different from year to year.... have you heard that?

I did document my 2002 CB in a post sometime ago...Ill see if I can find the link.

Just call Bill at MacGregor and he will e-mail or FAX a C/B drawing to you. I called him when I had to repair the C/B on my '99 X and he had it to me in about 15-20 minutes. The drawing looked like the original production drawing. I'd send it to you, but it went with the boat when I sold it last year.

I placed the Idasailor cb on the template I had from the Mac cb. It was a match--shape & holes. (2 different year boats.) I emailed the photos & measurements to you this morning. Hope this helps.

My wife (Lorrie) was all ready to let my get a 90hp and then Erik goes and does this. Now I don't know if i will ever be able to get one
