Mac 26m Mast shape changed from 3x5inch to 3x4inch ?

Hi all,
I need a new mast cap.
I have been told by the local dealer (who was told by the factory) that the

mast hasn't changed shape.
However the people at BWY tell me there are two shapes. the new one is 3x4inch and the old shape is 3x5inch.
Can someone tell me who's right ?
Cheers

Why not go straight to the horses mouth and call MacGregor

What do you have to loose
I don't know who you spoke with at BWY, but you can also try sending "bwygirl" either a "PM", or an e-mail.

Here's a link to the current drawing on the MacGregor web site's "suppliers' corner" -- indicates it is 26M mast shape "version 4", dated from 2006 -- so presumably correct for your 2007

BWY is absolutely correct! The factory no longer supplies the 3 X 5.25 mast because the supplier found the extrusion process to be too complicated and expensive so now all new masts are 3X4. The upside is that they can make them all 30' and use them on all past models by just cutting them to length. I am also told that the aluminum channeling is thicker so stronger but I have not measured it.
I had an accident with my mast and creased it bad, and when I tried to replace it I could not find the same size. Fortunately BWY had one left in their yard, it only had a slight dent near the steaming light (cosmetic) so I got a decent price on it. If I ever have to replace it again I will have to get all new hardware to fit the different shape mast that I will have to buy. Anyone with the old 5" teardrop mast should take good care of it because it is not replaceable, you will have to get the smaller 4" teardrop.

Too bad, the 3x525 mast is significantly faster. On a blue hull and 3x4, you'll practically be sailing backwards..

Thanks for sorting that out Terry.
You would think MacGregor would still supply the mast caps for the old one though !

Actualy Terry.
You'd been better off with the smaller mast & adding a second set of spreaders with a third set of shrouds way much stronger and a lot less weight aloft

PS you'd maybe able to use your old hardware I'd think
