jib question
jib question
A newbie question. Laugh if you would like. I have a genoa sail on my venture 22 normally. When I bought the boat, it came with an extra jib. However, the sail has no grommets. The question is, how do I attach and raise the sail? What am I missing? Thanks for your patience.

You say 'grommets', do you mean hanks....john3357 wrote:A newbie question. Laugh if you would like. I have a genoa sail on my venture 22 normally. When I bought the boat, it came with an extra jib. ...........like in the picture above?
Is your genoa a furling sail that is on a furler on the forestay by any chance. If so then maybe the jib is designed to slide into the furler and replace the genoa.
Hard to tell without some picture or maybe more to go on.
Good luck and a year and a half ago I had no clue about any of the above

Re: jib question
John,
Can you provide a picture of the jib? I suspect that there is a wire sewn into the luff but still there should be a grommet at the foot of the luff and the head of the luff that you would use to tension the luff of the jib. I suspect your sail may look something like this:

Re: jib question
You would still need grommets at the head and tack....and the man did say no grommets....
sounds like the job was bought 'on sail'
(sorry - couldnt resist)

Re: jib question
Sorry, there are grommets foot and head. The genoa has grommets all along it with hanks similar to Sumner's picture.
My question is how do I attach and raise the jib. Is it connected to the forestay all the way along or only at the foot and head?
Thank you for your help.

Re: jib question
Sounds like it is for a furler and slides up into that. You could probably put in grommets or have them put in and then get the hanks and then it would attach like your genoa,

This leaves two options:john3357 wrote:Sorry, there are grommets foot and head. The genoa has grommets all along it with hanks similar to Sumner's picture.

1) There is a pocket in the luff that you can run a length of wire through to create the setup in the link I posted earlier. The wire becomes part of the forestay on many boats.
2) The luff has a "bolt rope" that will fit into a furler track.
