Differences between older and newer 26M's

Post by jnook »

Is there anywhere or a thread we can see yearly changes to the 26M, or is it the same boat that was first unveiled in 2003 with no changes? Has their been talk since its been 7 years of a new model, like after 7 years of the 26X they released the 26M?

Thanks!

Minor differences along the years with pedastal, winches, interior window trim work, and trailers, but the main difference, IMHO, is the 2003/04 fixed galley stbd midships and 05/newest have the sliding galley port aft.

If you are in the market do try to see both basic types as many will prefer one over the other, sometimes strongly.
Hull shapes have remained the same as I understand it.

I have a 2006 26M with a sliding galley, and have since fixed it permanently admidships.

Note that with the sliding galley you get a fixed dinette to starboard - the early models had full length fore and aft seating on both sides, with a temporary table that installed amidship. Additionally, access to the rear berth is open on either side of the ladder in the early boats. Review and interior photo http://tinyurl.com/2867r3p.

Thanks for the info guys! Has there been any talk of an entirely new model, or is everyone pretty happy with the 26M?

I understand that since Roger MacGregor sold his yacht, "Anthem", he was sailing a 26M. So, there may be a few changes in the offing. But, I don't think they will be very big ones, since the factory is concentrating on a brand new 70 foot model. These are going to replace the MacGregor 65, which has been out of production since about 1995.

A couple of prototype 70 foot boats have actually been finshed and are on the water.

Mike Inmon who sells boats out of the factory and has Roger's ear says nothing new for the 26M for a while. It costs a LOT of money to rework a mold and he claims the existing molds are in good shape. Also, Roger is limited by regulations to build one boat per day. So when you can sell all the boats you can build, why change what aint broke.

The X vs. M, sliding vs. fixed galley debates will continue however.

And to further steal the thread with Catigale..........
At least with an :macx: you can stand up in the head…… in the :macm: you pull down your drawers and backup praying you hit the hole….. you may even need to turn on the back up warning horn, in case one of your shipmates had the fish taco trots before you.

I agree and since we have a more Hard Chine (Harder Shine) we can sail softer rolling motions, sail thinner waters and power more speed with less HP. and my 240 lb body easy goes up the stern ladder. But than again I see nothing wrong with a Mac.M and color makes no diffrence unless you are deep South were the Blue fades away. 8)
