Does anyone have a set of plans for boat stands? Ready to paint my '92 26S and need to get it up off the trailer. I can't get to the swing board as it is sitting on one of the trailer runners. Read several posts about using 4X4's but not to sure of how steady laterally that would be.

Are you working on a flat surface or outside? I made the above one for the stern and the other day a second one that goes a little in front of that one so I could use one or the other while painting.

I made a gantry over the front of the boat out of some 2X8's I had laminated together and the uprights, same stuff, are secured to the shop wall. Then I'm using webbing from the overhead 2X8's to lift the bow. I'll pictures of that soon.

The build on the rear stand is here....

Thanks for the pic. That gives a great idea for the stern. Unfortunately, I am working outside in the pollen now in my driveway. I though about getting the kids swing set. it's one of the heavy wood ones made of 4X4's & 2X8's for the bow, but it is too short by a few inches. I guess I could use blocks but would rather not. Not alot of sanding left but where meets the trailer and then the swing keel which I haven't tried removing yet. Going to concentrate on other things while pollen is falling. Everything has turned green and yellow and the pine trees are just starting.

Here is what I would do. Paint the stern area before putting the stand there. Then paint an area ahead of the forward bunk also at the same time. Now put the rear stand under the boat in the newly painted area at the back and raise the front up with the tongue jack. Now either block the front or use the jack like in the picture above to lift the front of the boat slightly off the front bunks and paint the rest of the boat. I would be very careful and leave the trailer under the boat at all times and only have it off the front bunk when working right in that area. That boat could kill you, so be very careful.

Also I'm assuming you are doing this on a paved driveway. If not make sure the rear support is flat on the ground. Also I would not do this on a driveway with much or any slope to it. If it has a little I would keep the trailer attached to a vehicle and located so the bow of the boat was in the "V" at the front of the trailer at all times so that the boat did not shift forward and come off of the stand at the rear. I put a piece at the back of the stand to help keep that from happening, but wouldn't want that to be the only thing keeping the boat back there on a slope.

c ya,

What kind or brand of paint do you use for a bottom job
What kind for the upper decorations, like the black line (I would like to convert everything to red wine color)

Thank you

I am using Pettit SR40 paint black below the Water line and Pettit Vivid Electric Blue on the walls with white top.
