Slip's in Upstate NY

Post by clemski19 »

We are relocating from GA to Upstate NY (Albany area), anyone have a lead on a marina with reasonable slip fees? Looking for a good location for our 26M "Last Mango"

Thanks in advance for the help!

There are several members who live in that area. They sail at a variety of locations. Is there a town you know you are moving to, or that still has not been decided :?: I ask because it would help them to know N, E, S, or W of Albany, and how far away.

Myself, I drive the 260 miles, and sail Lake George (one hour north of Albany) for a couple of weeks each year.

Hi Clemski19 ,

Wecome to the Great State of N.Y. and Taxes! We are retired and trying to sell our home in Cincinnati and then move back to the Saratoga Springs area where our family is. So right now we spend May, June, September and October in Lake George,(MANY VISITS!) until we relocate.

Our homeport is Lake George, N.Y. we lease a slip in Warner Bay for the season. There are always people selling dock space on Lake George, however one has to be vigilant in looking for a reasonable dock fee.

Where/when will you be relocating to in the Albany area?

Fair winds,
Jim :macm:

Welcome 'neighbor to be'

We live in Bethlehem (south of City of Albany) and have sailed most of the venues from the Hudson to Lake Champlain since 2002. Past few years we have trailered to Cape Cod and sailed day sailors locally though.

EM me and we can discuss your needs offline. The years I did slip I did so in New Baltimore down river about 10 miles - better sailing than the river near Albany and fantastic wildlife.

The local slip venues are Lake George, Saratoga, Sacandaga....everything else is pretty much trailer only.

Thank you everyone for the info. We are looking to make the move in June when the kids are out of school and will be living in the Burnt Hills area. I grew up in this area but had mainly small runabouts while growing up and spent most of my time on the smaller lakes.

I have plans to head to the cape as well once we get settled and the river south of Albany is something I hadn't thought of.

Thanks again and hope to see you on the water.

A lot more traffic in southern Saratoga county than a few years back, Im told. Still not like the 'city' but real estate in our area went up a lot in the past 5 years due to heavy demand from people bucking the commutes in Clifton Park/Saratoga.

Great schools in either area, though - the Capitol District is a great place to raise a family imho.
