Has anyone recently purchased a new 26? As I am hoping to soon become an owner it would
be most helpful to hear about your experience.
Thank you-Steve

I bought a new 2010

back in November 2009. I went through Supersport in Kearney, NE. They were very helpful for me, taking time to answer my questions. I got quite a good deal on mine. I had been leaning towards buying a 2000 or newer X or any affordable M. I spent 6 months actively seeking and calling on used boats after lurking on this site for nearly 4 years.
I picked up my boat right before Thanksgiving and there was a short break in the Nebraska winter. 50 degrees, wind and sun! Gary spent the whole morning helping me rig her for the first time. He was quite patient as I wanted to do everything myself so that I'd remember it. I was prepared to sail that day in snow.
We motored out onto the lake with me at the helm and spent about 45 minutes putting her through her paces. I come from an old runabout with a 260hp v8 so I needed to get the feel of her under power with and without ballast.
I couldn't wait anymore and we raised both Main and Genoa since the wind was light. I spent a couple hours at the helm taking her through all points of sail. Then Gary took the helm so that I could work the sheets. The last couple tacks, I worked both helm and sheets. It was a wonderful maiden voyage. The winds picked up near the end so I got to play with making her heel a lot!

We brought her back in as the sun was heading down and quickly got her prepped for the long tow home by twilight.
I've been doing basic mods in preparation for sailing weather next month! Early in my search, I also talked with Bill at boats4sail and he too seems to be a good man wanting the best experience for new owners. Good luck in your quest and purchase!
... Doug
p.s. I got Galactica with furler/genoa, Evinrude Etec 60, shore power, super sport package, spare tire and more... She's got a good setup!

Steve,
It may helpful if you list which area you are in. There may be others who can be of assistance to you by being more familiar with sailing in your location.

Hey Steve,
I took delivery of my

last Sept. Purchased from Bill Beers at Boats4Sail.com in Wisc. I'm a novice sailor and felt very comfortable the 4 or 5 times I was able to get out last year. After a minor Etec issue was cleared up, no complaints. You'll find making modifications to be fairly straight forward but as with everything boat related, expensive. My list of additions to date this winter includes:
1) Flushing toilet with holding tanks and deck pump out
2) Shore power inc. distribution panel and multiple receptacles
3) Battery charger
4) Bimini top
5) Solar vent in head
I'm sure the list will grow as I use the boat more. I don't believe the dealers have any type of exclusive territories so for my money, Bill would be highly recommended. He spent the day with me rigging the boat and giving me invaluable instruction. Also, met me at Racine for the maiden voyage and spent the day out on Lake Michigan with me and has offered to do the same this Spring when she goes back in. The MacGregors are certainly not the fanciest boats out there but they are versatile and in my opinion worth the reasonable price tag.
Good Luck in your search,
Bob

My wife will be envious of your number 1 (pun intended) mod. On number 4, how did you connect the bimini to the hull: genoa track or deck bracket? I just did number 5 too! Ebay is helping me keep costs down.
Now I'm heading back outside to spend some time building an electronics cluster mod on the pedestal. I decided that a depth finder was my number one mod to be done before putting her back in the water!
Steve, good luck on the possible purchase!
Doug

We love our boat but the purchase experience was less than perfect. The assets of the dealer were seized shortly after purchase, and they ceased to exist. It took months to get the prop correct but this year will be all pleasure.

Doug,
My Bimini mounts to the Genoa tracks via mounts from my dealer Bill of Boats4Sail.

Congratulations Tom
You might as well get used to us from the begining. We ask lots of questions, such as: What is a
suzuki 70 hp dodger

Do you just push a button to make it go up and down
Also:
Im looking forward to seeing myself

Welcome to the club! Your extras are very well chosen. If I suddenly get rich I will trade in my Honda 50 for a Suzuki 70 for sure! Congratulations...send us a few pictures when she comes in eh!

I can tell you the 70hp didnt make me any richer for sure, but i felt it increased its overall resale and desirability not to mention operating at colorado high altitude mountain lakes. Ok thats how i justified it to my accountant/wife. You see Its all in the sales pitch.
