Not really. That's old news. The Odin has been around for almost 8 years now, and it has yet to make significant inroads on Mac purchases.

It's a nice boat, but you definitely pay for that niceness... both in cash and in weight. With trailer, it's over 4,000 lbs.!

Actually it does look like some new news.

There are now 3 Odin boats to choose from, all I'm sure more expensive than a Mac, but at least the Odin line is growing (unlike the Mac line).

Odin 860 - 8.5m - 28.9' - 5 to 120 hp, inboard option
Odin 820 - 8.2m - 26.9' - up to 90 hp
Odin 740 - 7.2m - 23.6' - up to 50 hp

My experience with the "Mast, Odin, Imexus" series of boats begins in 2004... When I purchased Hull # 004 in the USA
after shopping for a MacGregor Like craft. Well after 6 seasons finished, and going on the 7th sailing season... I remain a Happy Camper .

But I don't think the comparison between the Odin / MacGregor boats is Fair
As only 10 to 15 Boats have been brought into the USA from Poland, since 2003.
To My understanding, aprox 400 to 500 craft have been built since there inception.. In Germany/ Poland
So do the math 400 Odins divided by 40,000 aprox Macs = 1 % Market Share
No Competition for USA Built 26m OR 26X'S In the USA... So in Summary, in 2004 Odin was Twice the price of a Mac.

Fit and finish are done to a European Standard, but @ a price $$$$$, and much heavier craft & trailer...75 hp to 115 hp required to make it travel fast. and an F150 or F250 Ride to travel around with a degree of safety .

So have a look "Butt to Butt", Same concept but different animals. With the World economy in lots of turmoil, just don't think" Mast,Odin, Imexus, Odin Nova" boats will be imported into the USA.... for now

I was a bit stunned at first ... but finally, I like my 26M better ... black & white as the photo above !

I wish that the Odin's trailer is better than mine ...

I love the idea of the stern drive on a hybrid powersailer. That would make the boat look like more of a traditional sail boat in the water without having the big OB hanging off the stern. I wonder how much room they lose due to the motor being an inboard?

I seriously considered the Odin but after a year of research, analysis and soul searching I went with my used 98 . I think it was the most logical decision. Rob

Have not been good !,
Can Be very, very VERY Expensive, without a Long Term Service Contract. Posible problems include
Blown Turbo's, EGR Cooler issues, Head Gasket issues, Overheating, and Sea Water backup, into the entire engine... Bad News...

But, Outboard 4 Cycle EFI "injected", and Newer Etec's is just a better choice for these types of Water Ballasted Boats.

ive always liked the odin,but the price is a bit restrictive for me.The other problem that we had here in the UK was that the supplied road trailer was illegal,it was legal for the continent but not in the UK,so after you had spent all that money on a new one you had to fork out another5-7k for a trailer and the laws in the Uk meant that you could only tow it with a vehicle that had an axle rating of 3.5 tons that rulled it down to a range rover or a land cruiser.

keel boats and marinas are competitive at those prices

I've been in an Odin a couple of times at the boat shows for more than double the price you do not get a lot of more space the interiour is a little more nicer "woodtrim" but I can instal a lot of wood trim for $45,00.00 , towing cap. goes up , gas costs go up , for a lot less money you can add a full canopy to your Mac to double the living space mine has three opening screens for the real hot nights its like your own personal enclosed bacony on the Ocean or Lake, the screens allow you to use soft lightening outside in the cockpit at night and you can leave the entrance hatch open without the cockpit or cabin filling up with pesky flying critters , its also great for sitting out their and to be able to sit back & read a book on these rainy days you'll use the boat a lot more because your not so much dependant on the weather " those rainy or damp days " even on those cold windy days if you do not want to go out , your not stuck in the cabin or forced to wear a heavy jacket outside yes buy a full enclosure your boat now has more room than an Odin for half the price
the Odin may sail better in heavier air & sea's but that is not a problem for me or some other's on this site who have made necc. mods to solve that issue ! also most on this site are fair weather sailors so why bother buying into something that you'll never use to capcity for those this boat "the Mac " is more than enough boat for what they use it for me included , remember more boat means more eveything , upkeep , cost , maintenace , storeage , insurance , new tow vehicle, towing trips now double in cost !!!!. Nah thx I think I'll keep my Mac26M after all she is my mistress

Ditto full enclosure,
On poker nights wih the boys,when its a bit cool out or raining and windy, the loosers go smoke cigars and drink brandy in the cockpit (under the full enclosure) and the whisky fumes from the lower deck..(ie) the players lounge........... wafte into the cockpit to keep the loosers warm

I'm very familiar with the boat myself. 1-2 years after a purchase of my first Mac 2003 26M I got very interested in an Odin or Mast 28 if you will.

I'm Polish, born and raised, so you could understand my sentiment. Besides I knew lots of Polish boatyards after 1990 transformation got means and access to newest boating materials and processes. You hear more and more of very successful Polish sailboat yards and models like Delphia boats. Additionally in 2005/2006 Polish zloty was pretty weak to US Dollar which made it very possible for the Odin to be competitive in US against Mac. I contacted the Manufacturer to research to see if they need distributors or dealers in US but they had already a deal with a company in Canada.

It's a very nice boat and as far as I've heard it was inspired by Mac design. German dealer of Macs went to Poland and they sort of designed hybrid power/sail boat and started manufacturing it, but like lots good ventures it ran out of money and Sailboat Yard in Tomaszow Mazowiecki got stuck with it. They tried to keep the production going by marketing it as Odin 28 but US dollar went south and Polish currency got stronger so it is true that to bring it here and sell it it would be over 70-80k. When I was looking into it I could get one for about 50k equipped ready to sail. In today’s market it's possible to buy nice lightly used 35-40 footer for 70-80k.

As far as design it has some nice features I'd like to see on my Mac, sturdier hull and thicker fiberglass material is being used, better components (steering, rigging).

But comparing apples to oranges Mac 26 is a better boat for the buck, easier to handle and trailer etc. that's why I'm a proud owner of my 2006 Mac 26M which I bought right after selling 2003 model.

I am very curious as to why one would sell a 2003 model to buy a 2006 model of the same boat???
I would not trade my 2003 model for any other year or model of Macgregor, I think the 2003 model was their finest!
