Secondhand prices in the UK

I have decided to buy either a late 26X or maybe an early 26M.

Can anyone in the UK give me an idea of what is the current sort of price range for a 2000-2002 26X and say a 2003-4 26M?

I have done plenty of searching about on the variou UK sites. I did see a 2006 26M for £16,500 (sold) which I thought was exceptional value and I am seeing 2002's for about £20k which seems high (all with 50hp, VHF, trailer and basic kit).

Gary it all really depends on how the boat is fitted out as standard Mac's are pretty sparce. Owners usally fit Lazy jacks, reefing kits, boom vangs, radios, chart plotters, self steering gear, the list goes on and on. The sails can be a factor as well, jib or genoa, spinnaker fitted. Work around the £15K for a desent :macx: and £18-£20k for a :macm: anything less than this is a bonus but as I've said check out the fittings.

Enjoy a Mac they are great fun and ignore the "sailors at the bar" most of the time its pure jealousy.......!!

my :macx: has Auto pilot,DSc VHF,New sails inluding a spinnaker and chute scoop, new mast ,new rigging, new running rigging, cockpit cusions,Windex,Chartplotter with full uk maps, all are less than two years old.The boat is a 2001x,its in very good condition. If i was selling my mac,i would be asking around 16,500 for it.

You could of course buy a lesser specked mac and add

AP at 1000.00
VHF at 300.00
chartplotter at 600
sails at 2000.00
rigging boom and mast at 2000.00
running rigging at 150.00
windex and metioman at 250.00

dont forget to add up the time that it takes to fit this stuff.

The problem with buying a boat from the classifieds is the cost and paper work involved in getting her into the UK,i looked into it and i was quoted 4-6K for the CE certification, then you have to add 17.5 % Vat and 10% import duty and the cost of transporting the boat from the USA.

That sounds like a fair price for a well kitted out boat. Are you sure you don't want to sell?

Gary,
sold my 99Mac26X in Spring this year for around £13K, major extras were inflatable dinghy with electric outboard, newish mounted VHF, usual Lazy jacks, roller reefed jib and all the other things you need to make the boat work. Sold it via http://www.apolloduck.com where there are currently 2*26M and 1*26X for sale at £16K - £19K, hope this helps
Cheers
Morris

I bought my 2001 :macx: a year ago and I am very pleased with it. :)

As others have said the value depends on the extras that come with the boat, its condition, and what you will need to spend to get it how you want.

Happy Sailing

Thank you for the offer gary but im keeping my boat for a little while longer,i intend to add a TV/DVD player, radio dvd player nad a large house battery. At present, the MacGregor is the only boat that will fit all of my criteria,I keep her on the east coast and things like the mast that can be lowered and lifting keel are real assets. The mac is a very popular boat for the wash area, there are about 10 26x/m boats around here.Whilst the keel boats have to wait for sutton bridge to be raised before they can go out or at least 5ft of water which really restricts them to 2hrs+or- HW.I can go out at all states of the tide during neeps and only the bottom end of springs keep me in.I just love sliding under the bridge and going out with 2 ft of water under my keel
:D
