The Australian 2010 Calendar

Folks, what are the big events for 2010?

I have:

Marlay Point Over Night Race (MPONR), (March, 2nd weekend?), Gipsland Lakes, Victoria.

Heaven Can Wait (HCW), (October, 1st weekend), Lake Macquarie, N.S.W.

The Heaven Can Wait, being a long weekend in NSW has a One Lap Dash and TSP connection. So the 24hr Race is not the only Lake Mac attraction that weekend.

Is there a race, cruise in company or Mac event in Queensland, W.A., & Tas?

Racing may not be our thing, but, no reason why Macs souldn't enjoy the organisation and who among us has sailed overnight?

Ok, Aus Mac Captains, what are the events that you are trying desperately to get to in 2010?

Tks
Clemo.

Does anyone go onto the river ( or want to go onto the river ) for an overnighter for River Fire?

A bit far for me, but the TSQ website had a report. Sounds interesting.

We have just missed this one, 19/9 to 4/10. But I will note it for checking out next year.

Anyone get to it this year?

Anyone got info? I read about it on TSP.

Hi

New to the forum but have had the Mac M for just over three years now

Been to the Batemans Bay, Jervis Bay (a lot), Moreton Bay (Pumicestone Passage - Caloundra, Tangalooma), Whitsundays with Macgregor group ( + Hook Reef), Port Douglas (Low Isles), Hawksbury (couple times), Tasmania (East and West coasts Macquarie harbour/Gordon river, Swansea/Coles Bay/Frecinet Peninsula/Schouten Island, Hobart - Wedge Bay via cape Raoul [were heading to port Arthur but turned back due to bad weather]/D'Entrecasteaux channel)

Gippsland Lakes sound good - never sailed there.
Heard that the best time is May - Nov but not sure.

Cheers

Peter

Welcome 2 the club

Peter, welcome to the best Mac website there is.

I take it that the list of cruising sites started before your buying the M.

I'm sure we will be referring to you for advice in the near future.

Again, welcome.

G'day Peter
Good to see you are on here and still getting about, really appreciated yours and Pats (and everybody elses) company and advice on the Whitsunday trip when we really needed to learn quickly.
See you have been covering some water since we last contacted you, hope "Transformer" is living up to expectations.
We went down to Gippsland Lakes last year and came away with mixed feelings but as a sailing venue it was great.
Bob

Hi Clemo

No they were all done since I bought the M.

Did a fair bit of cruising in my younger days though. Lived on a boat for about six and a half years up in the tropics
My last trip at that time (on a 30 ft Piver Tri) took two years - Townsville - Thursday Is - Wiepa - Gove - Darwin - Back to TI - Badu Is - Port Moresby - Samauri - Fergusson Island - Woodlark Is - Trobriand Islands- Shortland Is (Nth Solomons) - Kieta (Bougainville) - Mortlock islands - Louisade Archipelago - Samauri - Cairns.

Worked in Weipa, Gove and Darwin along the way to provide funds.

When I look at what Jessica Watson is doing though, she really gets me inspired. She is so amazing, Great attitude!
And what a sense of adventure!

And Bob, great to hear from you.
Yeah, that was a really good trip. Pat and I are starting to feel like doing it again. Time is the thing.

Transforma had a pretty good workout in Tasmania when we tried to get to Port Arthur from Hobart.
Was on the end of a four day SW gale. Made it to about five miles west nth west of Cape Raoul & we both thought - what are we doing out here again?
Coming about on those big seas was pretty exciting but Transforma handled if really well.

What was it about the Gippsland Lakes that you didn't like (don't answer that if you don't want to)

How's 'Trust Me' going?

Peter

I have two thoughts to offer up.

 A post New Years Cruise in the Moreton Bay / Broadwater area of QLD. I have spoken to a number of people who have sailed this area, and would like to check it out for myself. My normal post Xmas cruise has always been to the Gipplsland lakes for a couple of weeks, but I'd like a change. Would be great if a local could show the way?

 That every two months a designated meeting place on a Saturday Night for a get together be nominated at the Gippsland Lakes e.g. Box Ck, Steamers Landing, Paynesville, Duck Arm. That way no pressure is created by having to organise anything, just show up if you can and share a couple of yarns (and a couple of drinks! ). Could do a mid winter get together at Docklands for something different?
