What do I have?

Hi,
I recently purchased an older MacGregor sailboat and I was wondering if you could please tell me what I have (MacGregor 22,2-22, Venture 222 or 2-22)? The Hull identification is MACG2213M75I. According to my research, the first sailboat manufactured, was called a Venture 22(1970-71); Second gen added the pop-top, named Venture 2-22(1972-82);and starting in '83 they added an interior liner and renamed it the Macgregor 2-22 ... This all confuses me because I have a pop-top and hull liner but my boat was manufactured in 1975. Please tell me what kind of boat I have?

I'm looking at my original 1980 literature. That year they made a 21", 22", 25" and a 65". No mention of the 2-22 etc. Looking at the pictures the 22 clearly has the pop top and looks like it has a hull liner. In 1980, apparently, it was called MacGregor and not Venture.

If it's a 1975 model year, then it's probably the Venture 2-22. I want to say that I read somewhere that the MacGregor designation started in the 80's.
If in doubt, give the guys at Blue Water Yachts (MacGregor Corp) a call with that hull number. They should be able to tell you exactly what you have, based on that.
What kind of shape is the boat in? Are you planning any major work on it?

Sounds like a VENTURE 222, in 1980 it became the Macgregor 22.....Which had the liner and pop-top.

Thank you all for your help. I emailed the MacGregor Corp and they were very helpful. This is the information I recieved. Maybe it will help someone else.
The Venture 22 was originally built without a poptop, when the a poptop was introduced in about 1971 the designation was changed to V2-22 or V222. This designation was dropped after a couple of years when the top was cosmetically modified and we generally referred to the model as the V22 until the Venture name was dropped in 1982. In 1982 the model, without change, was designated M22 and production continued until 1987.
The hull liner was expanded to completly cover the hull below the joining rail at about the same time as the poptop was added. The underside of the deck had a cosmetic fabric covering in the center section and latex paint finish over the forward V-bunk. Your model would offically be a 1975 V22.
