turtle wax left a green tint on my Mac. Anyone else experienced this and remided it? Or will it fade away?

Steve, it sounds like you had some oxidation on the gel coat and that the wax has gotten trapped in the roughness. Before applying wax it's always a good idea to buff out the gel using a quality buffing/polishing compound and this will prevent the haze you see now.

ugh, I'm so tired of cleaning, stripping, scrubing, and waxing. And it still looks bad. Next year I hire someone from the marina to do it. I don't care if it's $200. If it lasts all season it's well worth it.

I've spent I bet 20 hours working on the exterior in the past two months. Cleaning, then stripping off Polyglow, cleaning again, waxing, ohh, I'm sooo tired.

Did you remember to buff the haze off after applying and letting it dry?

Don't use turtle wax, I know auto wax is cheap and easy to use, I just traded my 19 in on a new 26M. Go to the your local boat store and buy a good wax made for Gelcoat. I did the same thing. after 3 frustrating days I bought some Mcguires polish and wax. I got Mcguires 50. What a differance. Boat looks great, even the black looks great. Might take 2 coats, I redid the whole boat in a couple of hours, I applied by hand and buffed out with a 6" buffer,
Took the green away from the turtle wax, the oxide off from the rubbing compound. It cost more, but the time is saves is worth it. Good luck.

Turtle wax = green haze

Hendrix wax = purple haze

Good idea. I think you're right, I tried to save a little w/ wax I had in the garage, and lost. I was so frustrated Sunday afternoon I would've taken money from my savings acct. to pay someone a couple hundred dollars to do it right. Seems like Mcguires has been recommended in some of the many posts I've searched out on our site here, so off to West Marine (or is there somewhere cheaper) to pick up a bottle.

Green hulls are even slower than blue hulls....

So true !! However I do touch up my boat with Turtle ( Clear) Liquid Ice and its really nice!!

My solution for "doing the blacks" has evolved over the years.
First and foremost is never let them go bad in the first place.
But that happens.
My latest experiments have worked well, elbow grease not included.
If the blacks are oxidized/shades of gray, Barkeepers Friend ( an Ajax-like powder product) removes the gray oxidized junk quickly with little elbow strain.
Sloppy wet rag with some powder on the rag doing circles worked well.
Repeat until an even dull, flat black is seen.
The powder is ever so slightly abrasive, so I followed with a plastic polish to somewhat bring out the shine before I applied
Collinite "Fleetwax" in paste form.

(For 29 bucks a can at WM, it had better be Whoa).

I finished up with "303" to give it a "sunblock" type material, according to the manufacturer, at least.
Now I will find out how long this effort will last.
4 weeks will be great.
I'm hoping that only the wax and the 303 will need to be done once a month.

Come this fall or winter, I'm going to investigate and learn about doing some kind of paint on the blacks as others have done.
I don't think a high quality paint will start downhill as fast as the gelcoat does.

Steve I feel for ya but just remember .....what doesnt kill you, will make you stronger and faster Humm wax on wax off.
But its all a learning curve and your learning.
Just so you know IMHO for $200 they will have to move fast to make money for the owner of the Marina and its not their boat and there are ........some very nasty cleaners / solutions / compounds out there. Some that could do a lot of harm over time to your gel coat....
JSYK I could clean YOUR BOAT not mine .... spotless in an hour and then glide a silicone coating on it that would look good for a few months and then .....you'd realize what I did to your gel-coat..... Just saying $200 to clean a dirty boat and wax it is cheap maybe too cheap.....

Just keep it waxed....When you wax the boat 4 times a year you will never have any problem. The black always looks good. wax just a few feet at a time.
When I wash the boat down. I use a spray wax by Meguires. Spray it on and wipe off. Easy I can wax my boat in one hour by hand. No electric buffer.I would send a pick but I don't know how to do the photo bucket????
