We recently put two 8 ft. plastic Glide-ons on our trailer bunkers and mounted a light duty trailer winch up high above the front V bumper. The high light duty winch hook and line goes above the V bumper so when it is used when loading it picks up the front of the boat and with the addition of the Glide-ons moves the boat well into the V bumper. When we are on level ground, the heavy duty winch is tightened just enough to keep the bow touching the bow roller and the light duty winch is slacked slightly. After 5 years of trying various techniques we can now say - problem completely solved!!!

When I pull out the boat it is already in the front bumber snub. Somehow when it gets to level ground the boat is 5" back from the snub. As I read your post that is when you use the heavy duty wench that comes with the trailer. What kind of plastic Glide On are you using? I put a liquid rollar spray on the bunks but try moving the boat forward . It works getting the boat off the trailer. I think the only thing that works is to put a second snub on the boat after you pull it out..

I have the same problem.....It locks in tight but as soon as I hit the road it backs off.. I tighten it down with tie downs and don't worry about it.

From what I have read this is pretty common. Lots of threads on this and how to do the "Mac Bump". I do the bump...no big deal...works every time...no worries.

Goddardw do you have pics of your trailer mod. I would appreciate seeing how you set up the second winch. I have tried everyting to eliminate the 'Bump'.

The bunker Glide-Ons are a slick plastic with diagonal ridges that help center the boat. They are built to over-lap the 6" bunker boards. The set includes four 4ft sections and they recommend that it is fine to leave some carpet between the Glide-Ons. Google "Tie-Down Engineering Bunk Glide-Ons" We paid about $58 for the set.

The front of the bow has to be lifted well above normal so that when you get on level ground the bow will drop down into a close fit to the V bumper. The small lifting winch is then backed off and the heavy regular winch tightened. My heavy winch pulls the bow down firmly into the forward bow roller but this action does not move the boat forward enough and as you all commented, left a 4 or 5 inch gap. With the lifting small winch and the Glid-Ons there is no gap and the bow is tight into the V bumper. Works for me although there is a variety of trailers carrying Macs!

Since I instaled a 2 speed winch on mi trailer.

I no longer need the Mac bump.



I just pull it on the second speed...
