I have a 97 Mac X - there are some chips in the paint, faded areas, bottom is actually almost intact. I do however want to reapint the entire bottom and rudders. I plan on doing a light sand, removing lose chips, and filling any dings. Then Repainting over it. Does this sound ok? Also, what type of paint should I get? I will be in the northern chesapeake bay....so it's basically fresh water...it will be in a slip the whole summer...but not alot of barnnacles or anything. I'd like to do a coat that will last maybe 2 years? Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

Our is slipped in the same waters. We have had great results using Interlux Micron Extra with Biolux.

I use the same as parrothead in the Great Lakes. Very happy with the paint.

Must be something about today - start of Spring and all that - but after reading this thread, I switched over and there was We$$$t Marine sending me an e-mail with $40 off the Micron Extra bottom paint and an article about how to correctly paint my bottom (although I would rather paint my wagon and chase a star with a tall ship) and as I continue to free associate from Carl Noble to Charlie Noble - might be a good time to take a break and scramble up some eggs before some bunny hides them.

In the Great Lakes here - I'm putting on the Interlux VC-17m in a week or two. I'll let you know, in a year, how it worked

On repaining; the PO used what type of paint? You must use a paint that won't disolve te old paint or you need to sand off the old. If unsure, like me about most anything, then use a water based paint! Many folk think that stuff is poor quality, don't know myself. but, if you have paint A n it and paint B likes to eat and puke paint A, then B is not for you.

To second what parrothead informed us about. West marine will match that price. They discounted their paint to match the Wholesale Marine price, tax included. They matched the Wholesale Marine prices on my antifouling, barrier coat, stripper and fiberglass wash. I just saved 200 dollars at WM because I brought them my wholesale marine invoice.

My new X has some of it's black anti-foul flaked off in places. I think I'll touch it up with good old flat black spray can and see if I get things attaching where the spray paint is. (fresh water, in slip)
