Ladies,
There must me some of you out there that would like to chat rather than leave it all up to the boys!
What about you say ? Well I dare say that's up to us.

Lets get the ball rolling;
My name is Val and I'm Brian's other half. We have 6 kids between us and 5 grandchildren and we are still in our 40s!
I work full-time (so does Brian) and Brian introduced me to sailing about 8 years ago. First was on a 25ft Seaway trailerable then for some excitement the wonderful world of off the beach boats. Anything from a mirror, a 12ft skiff, 16ft catarraman and now race a 14ft MG skiff. I have skippered one race this season on the MG and I didn't throw us in, I wouldn't have lived it down if I had! I do helm the Macgregor during the winter race season though, real comfortable now that I accept the 20-30 degree heal!

Cruising -is great and we have spent many weeks on board many types of trailerables. The Mac is palatial compared to some we have had. I look forweard to hearing any ideas you have- especially regarding storage. Ideas that work for the female!

On another issue- I owned a Janome (New Home) sewing centre in a previous life (now a public servant) and currently am making curtains for the Mac . I have an Janome embroidery machine - if anyone is of like minds have you noticed that an old 8000 card has a boat when embroidered out in the right colours (and minus the backstay) has an uncanny resemblance to the Mac - saggy forstay and all? Very effective.

Cheers,
Val

Hello, Val.

I've been posting here off and on for some time. My first post was way back in summer of 2004.

Nice to "meet" you :)

Greetings - back when I was a mod I had an idea that the board should support an "Admirals only' board where our better halves could fora between themselves....maybe ping Heath on that..

Hi Ladies! I'm Clarissa - another "Admiral" hanging out on this board. I agree - we need a place where we can talk about the "important" parts of sailing - decorating the cabins, cleaning up the boats :| (it just won't do it itself doggone it!), and the part the "Captains" probably care the most about - what's for lunch. I've been reading some pretty good books lately and have some ideas, but would love to hear your ideas.

Ladies,

Great to here from you- I was kind of getting a 'lonely feeling'. I did hope that other Admirals cruised the board as well as me. I even have a sticky (thats a look) at work in my lunch break - really sad isn't it?

I have actually convinced the Captain to install a TV for our Christmas trip away. There are many days that we find ourselves battened down in lots of wind and there are only so many books to read. I could clean but I AM on holidays

I'll post a picture of the emboridery design I used on the Captain's T-shirt( as soon as I work out how), got to do one for me as well yet. Truly the boat design couldn't be anything else but a Mac.

I also would love to hear your ideas - "what's for lunch" is just so true- The Captain is ex defence and I can set my watch to his stomach :D

Please excuse my ignorance - but what/ how is pinging Heath? Yes- an Admiral forum is a nice idea. That is if there is a demand!

Cheers,
Val

Hello Val

Apologies are due on my end

"Ping Heath " is geek-speak for "contact Heath Johnson, the board administrator

You can do this by clicking on his name on a post and then using the Em button to email him. The easiest place tofind his name will be in the Announcements Forum where he posts administrative stuff

Knowing Heath a bit Im sure he will be receptive to an Admiral (the current board euphemism for Ladies) space.

Good luck!!c

Hi Ladies, - I'm here. Thanks for suggesting the good idea of an Admirals forum. I'm happy to implement this for you. I will set up a public usergroup for this (available through your user control panel) and then a forum that will only appear once you join that group. We need to decide on an official name for the forum and a description of the topics that should be discussed there vs. being moved to other fora. Please post here your name and description suggestions and we'll pick something. I also need a volunteer to be a moderator of the new forum. Please post or PM if you are interested in moderating or suggest somebody who seems to be pretty even-keeled and who regularly visits the board.

Thanks,

Heath

Heath: Thanks for being so receptive to this idea. I was toying with ideas for a name and description and came up with "The Galley" - a place where the Admirals can have a cup of coffee and chat about "women's topics" on Macs. I know its corny, and if anyone else has a better idea, let's hear it.

Good idea, ladies. I'm happy to moderate if you like, or you may wish to have a lady moderator of your own. I don't think the moderation duties are going to be particularly onerous, since I've yet to see a woman get even close to 'out of line' on this board, and as such it would only be helping with posting pictures, moving topics, etc.

Thanks, Kevin! I think we'll probably be much easier than the Back Room. :D

Understatement is your strong suit, I see.

Hi Clarissa,

I like the galley idea, perhaps "The Admiral's Galley" ?

Ladies - don't be shy, what does everyone else think?

Clarissa,
Do you sail often? With or without kids :|
We have only had the Mac since April this year. The Captain walked towards the Mac with a jigsaw last night- I threatened to get the camera :D Not to worry the CD/DVD/MP3 player looks great!

When I have finished the curtains - well the list just keeps getting bigger and bigger :)

Cheers,
Val

Val,

It might be a thought you register under a different nick, than I might even get my Admiral interested. (It will be a hard job though, she is not into these chatrooms, but you will never know)

Thanks Dirk,

I guess a nick is a 'name'- Please let your Admiral know this is the first and only chat room I've been in and I know nothing about the lingo!!!
