It was touched on in another post, but I thought I'll open up a separate post.

Anybody going to the Gippsland lakes during the Melbourne Cup weekend?
We are planning to leave on Friday arvo, weather permitting.

G'day Dirk
We have absolutely no hope of getting down there now but it is definitely on the agenda prior to Xmas.

We have a change of plan now. I was nicely informed by the admiral that we have to go to a concert on the Saturday night. Now planning to go the the lakes on the Sunday.

Dirk,
bummer that you're not going to make it down to the lakes until Sunday. We're in the oppposite story, we're coming down on the Friday night and due to the little woman having to work on the Monday, will be going home around lunch time on Sunday.

Our plans are to launch on Friday night and move over to Dawson Cove (about 1km west of paynesville at the entrance to Newland Arm). No idea as to where we'll be staying on Saturday night.

Dawson Cove is a great little spot close to Paynesville which is protected from nearly every wind direction, deep entrance and dedicated tie off points to back the boat in against the beach. No toilets.

If anyone else is coming down and wants to meet up, send me a PM and I'll give you my mobile number (assuming there is service).

Thursday: Dawson's Cove

Saturday: Bunga Arm, Steamers Landing.

Would be great to meet up with some Macs

See ya there

Here we are stuck in Melbourne.
Tried to put the boat on the trailer but could not even moor the boat for 5 minutes due to a fishing contest at Patterson River and all the stinkboats took up every bit of room. We even could get the one finger salute from some of them.
On the other hand the weather does not look too good either at the lakes, so we might just stay here and hope for a decent day to go sail on the bay.

Just got back from the Lakes. Saturday and Sunday were great for sailing. Monday was a bit blustery so spent the day touring in the land based vehicle. Overall had about 8 or 9 solid hours of sailing in good steady winds so was a wonderful long weekend in my book. Saw lots of other TS's but no Macs although there were a couple of Mac trailers at the launching ramp.

Cheers Nick

Nick,
we were down the lakes from Thursday night until Sunday arvo. Was the first time that we have had this boat down the lakes. Was very impressed 8) with the boat and the comfort if offered as compared to other boats that I've had.

I had a chat with a bloke who lives down in Paynesville and he was getting his boat repaired at the time. He has built a website just for Victorian Mac Owners http://victorianmacgregor.wordpress.com ... -victoria/. Whilst I wish him the best I would prefer to support this forum.

Saw another 2 Macs, an X in the boatyard, and an M going the oppposite way in the channel at Paynesville. It was called Jeykl and Hyde. It had this great looking swept back sports boat fairing, which I'm guessing is a solar panel array. Would love to catch up with him and have a much closer look.

Ended up making up a great list of things to improve the boat. Our only down side was somehow I bent the prop when we launched the boat. I ended up panel beating it on the beach in Box Ck.

What a top weekend, really looking forward to Xmas.

The name of that boat rings a bell as it's the perfect name for a Mac but just can't recollect where I saw it.
As for the comfort of the boat, we have spent over 8 months in total living on the boat and it gets easier all the time, trust me lol.
Have to get down to the lakes this year and prior to xmas would be better before the crowds but times running out.

We are so sorry now that we didn't go down to the lakes over the cup weekend. The weather forecasts were no good, so it proves you can't rely on them. I am aware of a few others that didn't go either. It could have been quite a party. :)
Hopefully we will be able to go down during the Christmas break, but time is getting away from me.

Finally worked out where I saw that :macx: called Jekyl and Hyde, It belonged to a bloke at Hastings called Frederique and we were looking at buying it, actually it was the first Mac I ever saw and sailed on (must be getting old) I did suspect it was this boat due to the Targa for the solar panel which I really liked (and copied) :D .
Went through the photo's and found it, I would have bought it but the wife thought the aft bunk was too cramped and besides at that time she was still very hostile about the idea, it took a year and looking at a few :macm: to convince her.
Glad I sorted that out it has been in the back of my head since you mentioned it.
