I have to do some work at Marine Bio Lab at Woods Hole next week, and am planning on bringing Catigale for my first sail on salt water.
I intend to sail in Vineyard Sound, and overnight on MV too for one night
Can anyone give me insights into transient moorings, etc in that area?
Anyone interested in joining or crewing?
Feel free to contact me by posting or off list at

Transient moorings and slips are at premium at this time of year in this area....try to make reservations. Woods hole has a town ramp; best protection is in eel pond at docks...Woods Hole Marine has transient moorings but they were out in great harbor. woods hole passage has lots of rocks and swift current (can be 5kts at peak) so get local knowledge, cruising guide and chart....also red buoys are to starbd when heading toward Buzzards bay.... A quiet harbor with moorings is just north on BuzzBay...at Quissett Harbor boat Yard.
there are great anchorages and gunkholes across from Woods Hole and south along the Elizabeth island chain...Hadley Hrb & inner Hrb behind Bull is, Tarpaulin cove & Cuttyhunk.
Across the Sound from Cuttyhunk is Menemsha Pond on MV...great for shallow draft.
Across from Woods Hole is Vineyard Haven Harbor .....give West Chops and the big rock plenty of room coming in around from the West.....
I like to anchor back in Lagoon pond ....but there are a number of marinas with moorings (Coastwise Warf and Owen Park town dock).
Call ahead to Harbormaster on 16, he'll get you squared awayed.
I wish i was going.....use to sail the area for 5 years....need to go back soon!....enjoy!
