I just bought a 1986 Mac 25. The rudder was dragged on the road on the way over to the owner's house from where he had it stored. It's a little shorter than it's supposed to be. Can anyone tell me the length of the rudder and maybe send a picture of what the bottom end is supposed to look like.

I might have some photos; I'll take a look. I sailed my Mac25 for a while with my rudder about 8" too short after breaking it and redrilling it.

On my "76 V25 the rudder overall is 72" long. From the lower pin to the bottom it is 35". Hope that helps

The rudder is just rounded on the bottom. I repaired mine, which had some gouges out of the leading and trailing edges, using automotive/boat fiberstrand fill. Filled in the gouges, let harden, filed and sanded smooth, then painted with some regular white spray paint I had lying around. Looked great when done.

I wish I could do that. Mine looks like the po might have cut it straight across with a circular saw. I am going to have to figure a way to extend it about 6 inches. I wonder if it even makes that much difference. I could just fiberglass up the bottom. It looks like it's right where hollow part begins.

If you need to extend it, try drilling a couple holes up into the rudder and then epoxy in a couple of steel rods so they stick out a bit less then what you want to add. Then build up a new rudder tip around the rods using fiberglass and epoxy. Sand to contour, then paint. Or cruise over to idasailor and grab a new rudder from them. Spendy though.
