Motor control consoles

My motor control unit is probably similar to most X boats, in that it's the motor manufacturer's stock remote bolted onto the side of the console. Suzuki in my case but I guess they're all pretty similar.
Problem is it's ugly, gets in the way, and is awkward to use because it's set at a horrible angle to accommodate the cables.
Is there a better solution? I've seen that Teleflex make motor controls that look better and should be mountable in a better position, but I don't know if they're compatible with all engines. Has anyone got one of these, or similar?
I searched the forum for previous threads but couldn't find anything. Surely someone's done this
Any ideas or suggestions welcome
Cheers, Rick

I use the Teleflex 700SS motor control. It’s not perfect, the throttle cable interferes with the battery but it works. There is a control cable called
EXTREMEmade for installations with sharp bends. With that control cable I think it will work just fine. Some time, maybe, I will change the throttle cable. I have a Yamaha engine but I think Suzuki use the same cables.

Hi John
I take it you mean that is Suzuki's own brand control? If so I'll see what my local dealer can turn up. Can it be mounted left-side if required?

Hi MSS
I think that is one of the Teleflex ones I was looking at. Nice to know it works, I'll try to find more details on it.
Is the cable problem because the battery's in the console? That wouldn't be a problem for me, as my battery is at the back of the aft berth.

I like your grab handle John,

looks like it comes apart at the joints. Can you mount a cockpit table to it.
Someone referred to the new pedestal/binnacle as being a toothbrush, I have to laugh now that I see it that perspective.

Yes it is made by suzuki cost $760. but I got it on sale at the time from Suzuki at $240. I beleive, if you enlarge the pic & look at the center of the handle you'll see their logo it will fit either side & the handle is adjustable also if you need the part # e/m me & I'll look it up

Yes thats my intention to make a table that will attach to this pedestal guard that I made & designed myself I may take it off my mac19 & install it on my mac26m as it was time consuming making it to fit as I did rather than make another one for the mac26m it's great for holding onto in the cockpit when she's rough out here's more pic's

That's a nice control, but it's sure pricey! Did that include what I assume is the ignition and safety switch panel on the other side of your console? It makes for a big panel just for those items.
I'm thinking I'll maybe see if I can get a Teleflex. Trouble is it's not just a question of getting the right combination of interlock, trim/tilt switch etc, but I'd still need to install a separate keyswitch. Not to mention sorting out the wiring harness
I don't think a kill switch is really necessary on these boats. I always clip in with a tether when I'm on my own, and it's pretty hard to fall off when at the wheel
Perhaps a mod to be saved for next winter.
