A good sniffer alarm is the only way to go " a marine unit" not one of those battery house hold one,s , remember it must b ignition protected & ur dog do,nt cut the mustard

Highlander warned us about the fumes in the bilge to make sure we did not light off the boat in case we were not ignition protected or protected from the dog's mustard (not sure what that means) but we all assumed it was "sound" advice.

Then Highlander made a comment about having a stick up his butt, (I think ) or some kind of fire stick thing and he was going to find the fumes with a stick or something and he asked is any of us wanted the mustard:

PS I already tried the match stick method was an exhilarating hot trip but when I got there I was told they were full so I,m back ! but my Butt was on fire all the way back & my walnuts r now roasted just like my wiener , Mustard anyone !

So I wanted to know if it was the dog's mustard. Not sure I want to take mustard from the dog. Okay, makes sense now?

Oh, I get it now - the dog does not cut the mustard because he did not rescue you from the gas leak - I get it now.

So, if I talk to Highlanders dog it might not work as my gaelic is sketchy but,

I suppose I say: "lorg" (lit. search for) "FAIGH" (to get, find)

This is not the same way I speak to my rabbit - for him I say: "SEALL" (root- “look”) or SEALG (“hunt”) (Rabbits don't fetch, they forest)


In highlanders case he says: "madra dona" because the dog did not cut the mustard. Perhaps if Highlander used his gaelic I might have understood better - "bad dog".

I might need jimmyt to interpret the catsup and mustard and relish on the hot dog comment although I see no problem boiling the hot dogs on the alcohol stove Highlander seems to think there is some need for mayo in regards to how the peppers facilitate digestion? Not sure on that one - it could be another gaelic reference.

I no speaky Lithuanian - just a little Slovak - is it poverty? or the dog is 'poor' or something? (I doubt Johns dog is 'poor') Or LOK - my mom would say LOK about someone who was an idiot - like a chump. Not sure - ever since the Communists took over Russia there has never been a real English translation for "poor" - so I'm not sure how to say it.

You guys lost me several posts ago. You have to keep the conversation slow and use basic English. Remember I'm from lower Alabama.

I love Highlander's posts, but I mostly look at the pics. His accent is so heavy, I can hardly understand the words. Of coerce, ifn he wuuz dowun heeur, he probly wunt unnerstayund us neethuur.

I don't care for mayo, but catsup, mustard and relish, (and kraut), are all good on hot dogs. We can cook the off the stern rail on my Magma, to avoid scaring BOAT with the propane grill. Boiling will do in a pinch, but I like them better grilled.

Regarding giving the Dog peppers, not sure the dog is getting a fair deal in that scenario... I had a coworker tell me about a dish his wife made that burned as bad leaving as it did entering. Falls under the TMI category for me.

Haven't had a chance to test the lit candle vapor detector yet. Been doing house projects. Started on my taxes this morning.

Youngest daughter is here now. She just found out that her students will be out for at least 3 weeks, so she came home for the corona ride... she wants to build an upholstered headboard while she's off. I'm hoping we'll get at least one sail in while she's home.

I'm hoping it won't be long till we can get back to the point where we're worrying about which stove fuel to use again.

I'm still worried - (about the stove fuel). It's going to blow up - I saw it with my own eyes in that video - I think that's what Highlander was talking about when he said things would come out the other end.

Anybody make a replacement gasket for their stove? I was thinking of cutting a circle from an inner tube.
My 96 26X stove gasket was damaged about 10 years ago.

Tentatively, the inner tube gasket should work. If it's a butyl rubber, it should do ok with methanol.

I'm not sure how vapor-tight the valve is on those stoves, so I can't give a definitive answer on the risks associated with having the canister fully charged, but not gasketed. But, based on the fact that I can sling a wharf RAT (Boat) through the gap below my sliding hatch, I think the biggest risk is losing a little methanol to evaporation. I don't think you'll hit LEL/LFL with the valve closed and no gasket.

Hoping to go sailing tomorrow. Should be 15 gusting to 20. Won't be having a lot of vapors hanging around in that...

Should be able to maintain social distancing...
