- worth reading as the suggestions make a lot of sense as in keeping some sort of logical 'organisation/order' in the discussions. Would be good to have that thread as a "Sticky" at the top of the list.

Tweed heads/Coolangatta

Wow, this takes me back. I was a £10 pom and grew up around here in the sixties, well at Kingscliff actually. Dad taught at Murwillumbah High school and I learned to swim Snapper Rocks in Coolangatta (although I understand it was demolished many years ago). Left to come back to England in 1972 so been a long time but would love to have my over there right now.

Re the hatch leaking, just had a look at mine and when I put the velcro slides on I must have put a bit of velcro across the front on the cabin top but looking at it you could easily put some of that rubber sealer strip with the sticky on one side right across and then put another piece across the inside of the hatch lip to meet up with it, pretty sure that will stop most unless under extreme pressure but you will have to remove the hatch to do it.
While the hatch is off put some velcro along the sides of the cabin roof for the hatch to slide on it makes a huge difference and stops the hatch wearing the roof gelcoat.
I wondered why I never wet inside the last couple of times and thought I was just being more careful than normal until I found the velcro which isn't much but it creates a surface the water has to get over.

Assuming/hoping your friends moved their yacht off the mooring before the onslaught we just went through Stacey as it isnt there now. My boat was in the front yard with the mast up and I decided last night to get it down,,,, had great difficulty getting it to go down LOL - that was some strong wind.... This mornings tide had the whole boatramp area under water. That was the highest I have seen it get here......

Yeah Paul our boat is up on dry dock with mast and sails tied up and we rang Horizon Shores and they said that if there was a problem with our boat they would phone us. But I have added all the extras to our insurance about 2 weeks ago so much safer up out of the water. I'd image that you really copped it closer to the waterfront there at Cabbage Tree which is just that bit more opened to the weather. Our friends husband and daughter are stuck on TabbyTabby with their yacht secured and sealed in one of the big shed over there.

Also asked my girlfriend and she advised that her husband had organised the mooring and didn't have a problem as it is listed as the official Tabby Tabby mooring. They also need it for the barge over there. So I think it is a bit of a different from the moorings down your way that are public and also tied into Rudy Maas leases.

Hopefully we will get out next weekend but have some commitments on the Saturday. With the wet weather we were thinking we would have been more at home on the boat with all our wet gear, lights, food, water onboard.

Sad to see the old couple in their 80's trying to stop the yacht from drifting and he fell over board and they had to rescue his wife. The only thing is it looked like they had lived their dream to live aboard their boat.

LEAKING HATCH COVER: Thanks Boblee for the good advice. Be interesting to see how much water got through the hatch with the big wind and rain over the weekend. Hopefully boat was facing the right direction away from the big blow. Will so find out when we open it up next weekend.

MOISTURE ISSUES AFTER BIG WET:

I don't know what everyone else is using to try and get rid of the moisture in their boats but we have found the moisture crystals that they sell at Bunnings very useful. We have 2 jars permanently set up in the boat one in the gallery and the other in the head. I also keep a full bag stored on the boat to keep container filled up. I have found in the past after some big wet weekends out that they really soak up any extra moisture and minimise mould build up.

I also find that White King GEL type bleach is the best as it doesn't drip all over the place and easy to put on your cloth and just wipe away any surface mildrew on the inner walls and roof.

We have been given a dehumidifier 240 v........and wow does it make some water.Put it in our truck slide on camper ie limited cubic metres (probably 8-9 cu M) and it made 2.5 tanks full at 9litres each in 2 and a bit days.....fully closed up so no outside air was entering
So next we will be putting it in our boat and looking for a smaller one to use in the boat as often as possible

I just found this thread and read all the way through it, very interesting thread, but it just stopped at the end of January??
Anyhow, I am on the Sunshine Coast and use my mainly out of Mooloolaba in the harbour area and out to sea but also occasionally in the passage off Caloundra. I am hoping to get to the south end of Moreton this Christmas so maybe we could organise a get together with the Macs? Food for thought.

Hmm, not sure, colder climates I think, so south of me for sure, I'm in the south east corner of the north of Australia, kinda like Florida for climate but it looks quite different than Florida, coastal wise it looks more like the coast around L.A. with long sandy beaches but definately no potatoes.

Potatoes???? Dorrigo/Bellingen....Robertson.....so higher altitudes/colder...how did we get onto potatoes....mind you don't mind a good spud,mashed,au gratin and of course chips or French fries,potato bake,hash browns
