I tried one of those this winter and had a blast. Kept it on the snow and ice though. :)

I was following some of the links provided previously in this thread and ran into this product--Tuff Coat. The makers seem to indicate you can patch an inflatable by just painting on the two coats of this stuff. http://www.tuff-coat.com/
Having failed to successfully patch two of the less expensive models of PVC inflatables using the glue/patch kits provided and the one WM sells, I am about to pull the "trigger" on a more expensive hypalon inflatable by a major manufacturer (Achilles LT-4). http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?pat ... id=2353624
My hope is that having a boat that can be professionally patched will work better for me in the long run. But the Tuff Coat stuff looks interesting. Does anyone out there in Mac Land have any experience with Tuff Coat? :?

What about a sevylor finish hunter 280. I have read good reviews, and they are cheap.

What about a sevylor
I haven't had a Sevylor, but I did have a Navigator III and an Intex Seahawk. I am almost certain that the Sevylor is like those two, a relatively cheap PVC. I found my first two inflatables great...until they weren't! I sailed the Navigator on Lake Powell and several other venues about a dozen times over the next year. Then one day I left it on my pool deck here at home in Orlando, and the internal seams between sections began to fail due to over inflation from the sun expanding the air in the boat. Eventually the floor section began to separate from the outer hull sections. Multiple efforts to patch and reglue were fruitless. After discarding the Navigator, and consulting with the company from which I bought the Navigator, I purchased the Intex. It was inexpensive, and I figured like others that I could just buy another one when that one failed for whatever reason. And the Intex was great, too...until it wasn't. While I was doubly careful not to over inflate the Intex or leave it out in the sun, it nonetheless sprung a leak in a couple of places from friction against some limestone rocks at a venue where I used it here in Florida. Again, multiple efforts to patch it were unsuccessful. And that became apparent only after I had packed it up for a trip in my travel trailer to Michigan where I had intended to sail with my granddaughter. When I took it out to inflate it, the section with the patches would not hold pressure enough to make it useful. by that time the replacement cost had gone up, and the window of opportunity to use it with my granddaughter had come and gone. Fast forward to the discussion I had with the Defender rep, and he persuaded me that these cheaper PVC inflatables are not much more than "pool toys". So I am done with the cheaper inflatables. I want one that can be professionally patched, if necessary. and I want to try hypalon this time just to be on the safe side. :)
