Re: Southport Sail
Tom,
Southport Marina is an excellent choice and I have a mast up storage spot right across the street that we could make arrangements to park your trailer there for the week at no charge. That way you can feel comfortable about it being secure. It is locked and video monitored by the owners.

Re: Southport Sail
Thanks. That'll work.
And for the record, I've always relied on the trailer being old, lightly built, and steel for security. In other words, who'd want to steal it? Ha ha. But the tires and wheels are almost new, and they all match, making them the most attractive part, so a secure place to leave it would be great. Thanks.

Re: Southport Sail
1 or 2 ramps with 1 small dock for launching only and quite a little ways from town. Also seems to be pretty busy with fishermen launching and retrieving. I would not recommend this park for launching with a group. However it would be alright to come and explore for the weekend.Erik Hardtle wrote:How's the wildlife ramp at Dutchman Creek Park?

Re: Southport Sail
I've been scanning charts for that area. There appear to be a number of spoil islands along the ICW and Cape Fear river. Are there any/many good anchorages or sandy beaches that we can take advantage of? When exploring on our own, we tend to like to find remote/isolated anchorages, beaches are a plus.

Re: Southport Sail
I'm afraid I can't make it on the assigned days. Too many road trips, too close together, and not having anything to do with boating unfortunately.
BUT, we ARE planning on bringing the boat to Southport some time in August for some vacation time, probably NOT during a major holiday weekend (some other random week and weekend or two).
Sorry. Maybe I'll see some of you there anyway, later in the summer.

Re: Southport Sail
I'm looking forward to it, but I found out there is possibility I may have to go to Atlanta that week for training which would mean I'd miss Friday and couldn't meet up until Saturday.
It's not finalized yet, but I'll keep you guys posted.

Re: Southport Sail
yes it is still on. As you know I have been in the Bahamas for the last 3 weeks with very limited connectivity so have not been able to keep up with this thread. Unfortunately the city dock in Wilmington is full up so we can either anchor out and dingy in or possibly find a beach and do the beach thing for Saturday night.
I will leave it up to the group and have a couple of choices that the group can decide on Friday at the Southport Marina.
So far we have five boats with a couple of maybe's. It's not too late too join up so if anyone else wants to go we will be glad to have ya.
