I know its not for everybody ...but I still really like the unit mounted in the swinging door .they make these 5200 BTU units so small and so light its not in the way at all ...the big fiberglass drop board was so bulky anyway that I surely have not missed it ! I really like not having to step over a unit !

I've thought about adapting a 5k unit I have sitting around, removable because it
is so light, but never got around to it because it gets cool at night (eventually) to where even fans are too much. So I just deal with it.
Folks in the south deal with a whole 'nuther set of weather, though.

I am a Trailer Sailor that only Docks when needed like Pennikamp FL. in a Marina for $30 a night that has AC hookup.Thats when I use my AC in middle of summer here.
Having good output fans down below and at least 4 of them are often good enough. Two at aft bunk and another Port and Starboard mid section .
Those who sleep in Vberth just aim the forward fans towards you.
Very low 12volt draw even using all 4 fans on medium speed.
Makes a good night sleep even if temps are 78 degrees and humidity at 80%.
Just have your screen hatches in place and bare naked sleeping.
Nothing like a cool air going over your body in a bunk.

but it is a nice idea & set-up if u only trawler

Only seven years late to this thread, but
Gadzooks!, isn't that "Billy Box" the elegant
King of Mods! Maybe it's just today's excessive heat advisory here in Virginia talking, or the fact that I just got back from the boat yard, where my 26X was not unlike some interplanetary Comanche Sweat Lodge on the sunny side of the Planet Mercury, but I'd pay
real money for either good plain plans or a finished or even semi-finished unit. Scratched, used, prototype or otherwise less-than-perfect units also gratefully considered
!
Billy, you know where to find me via PM or email
! But, you'll have to excuse me just now while I go hydrate with the fire hydrant on the corner...
