Hi Matt , it is an easy Mod just cut a 2" hole in the face of the pedestal but make sure you measure it right as it's a one shot deal ! then put a weather seal gasket around the motor , but you still have to use the anchor pin for the lock ring !

as I understood Your Raymarine-systems are connected via Seatalk. Are you able to operate them independently than?
I´m concerned about the electrical power used, e.g. to my knowledge the ST40 wind system doesn´t have a on/off switch.

Thanks to all that have posted on this thread, as I have followed along in anticipation of my S1 install.

Everything is in and ready to go, except for 1 small detail.....

..... I can't seem to get the #$@#$@ wheel off!

I have the nice KH 20" wheel with the pilot and motor installed on it, but can't get the old factory wheel off.

Soaked it with liquid wrench, and anything else I can think of that might help.
Used a 20lb sledge with about as much force as I dare, hitting the nut on the steering bolt while pulling back on the wheel.... nothing, not budging.

Going to have to look for a shop that rents out a wheel puller I guess.

Anyone else have this problem? LOL

Can't wait to get this issue resolved and have time for some sea trials.

I've seen the problem referred to several times here. Seems the answer is to use a high quality wheel puller, the cheap ones break. Good luck.

One idea... not sure if this will work but maybe worth a try:
Get two block & tackles.. 4:1 or 6:1. tie to the wheel port and starboard and other ends on the aft mooring cleats. Start pulling. See what happens. Danger Will Robinson!!! What I'm not accounting for is the strength of the rack & pinion. I don't know if it'll hold up to the loads, so perform at your own risk. Sorry dude. Short of a wheel puller, that's the best I can come up with. If you can wait a few weeks for the mail, I can send you mine, but I reckon to buy one would cost the same or less than postage back & forth to Canada. I just don't know where to get one. Just happy my dad was able to pull one out of his sleeve.

I attempted to install the Poor Man's Autopilot in December...but I couldn't get the stock steering wheel off. Stripped the threads on a cheap wheel puller that we bought at AutoZone.

However, my Dad went out to the boat a week or so ago with a friend and they used a little brute force and some WD40 and worked it back and forth a little and it came off. Hopefully that will make things go quicker in Sept when I show up to install my S1.

Also, before reassembling, coat the inside of the steering wheel hub with a small amount of anti-seize compound.

I used this gear puller. Be careful not to lose the "key" a small half moon piece that falls out when you remove the wheel. The wheel came off very easily.

That looks just like the puller I used...and stripped the threads on that big bolt. My wheel was pretty well stuck.

I guess this means when I come up I better bring along a thread file because I reckon you've beene beating the crap out of it by now I will also see if I have a puller that will do the job , But theirs nothing like having "THE MAGIC TOUCH"
