Aya,
I don't have to sleep in my bathroom to prove it's not going to be a pleasant experience. Most of these things are subjective criticisms but we like what we like. Given a choice between a taller head closer to the hatchway lots of folks will appreciate that and decide it's worth getting an older boat. Some folks want a new boat, warranty and all, and many value pointing higher into the wind.

I personally would not trade my X for an M. I'd spend half my time monkeying with the centerboard because my home water is shallow. I happen to favor the layout for all of Moes reasons and when I've been in an M, it just feels more cramped. I like the simple mast with a backstay and larger transom opening. Don't take it personally. You M guys get to have fun too.

Can't we all just get along?

I'd bet there is nothing about my boat that I can't find something positive (or at least an opportunity for an even better solution) about.

No place for a cooler - So what? I mounted a real compressor fridge.

Head location - I rather easily mounted a vent, to deal with Kevin's nasty fumes, in the roof/window. It ain't that easy on a X...

Head size - I bet I'm one of the bigger/fatter guys on this board and I can use it fine... That being said, smaller is better because I damn sure hope it is the least used space on the boat...

Cheap Wood - no fiberglass work required to do significant mods...

I could go on and on and on...

But, I recognize that happy X owners can do the same thing...

There are two issues here:
1. Reasons you bought the boat in the first place.
2. Reasons you use to justifiy your choice, if only to yourself.

They are not necessarily the same, as your information about the boat and alternatives change.

The idea, though, should be to make the best informed initial choice, for you and your situation. Any one person's situation will likely be different than any others. So, figure out what is important to you! Whether that be cost, having a new boat, expected usage, etc...

You'll find a way to be happy with your choice, I promise...

apologies to Ian Brooke for turning the answer to his question into another redundant MX thread ... hope you are smiling at us, and feel welcome to the community ...
Get you a Mac 26 of any sort (or a 19 ) and you will be doing great.
I would recommend one more member post to this thread so i am not the last say, and then Moe or moderator close it down.
