That does look SWEET. The only thing missing is a galley and restroom.

If all were priced equally, I would still rank them in this order:

1- :tat22:
2 - Nuva
3 - Ventura

I intend to one day take a small trailer sailer on the great loop. I really feel the :tat22: would be THE boat for my wife and I to do this in. Someone get on the phone to Laura and ask her to get cracking. :|

It's missing the required gate hasp on the door.

I wish these guys all the luck in the world but I think the price point kills them.

Huh well it's possible to have really nice lines, a stellar sailboat that will plane. We have the technology.

Nuva Yachts? Seriously? What's their motto? "Cruise carefree down the love canal?"

Looks great! If I ever want to raise my mast in orbit, I know who to call.

What are the Nuva folks gonna call it, The Viagravator?

Hi Guys,
Sorry for jumping into the forum and the topic but I'm looking for a motor sailor and while I was trying to find the best option I ended up in your forum.
I've read a lot about Motor Sailors and their promised, but rarely obtained, performances. I believe this could be the best type of boat for me as a newbie, specially because my wife doesn't really enjoy sailing and I love it.

I would really appreciate to hear your thoughts as MacGregor users and not sellers. Comparing to other motor sailors in the market, do you think Mac Gregor is the best option? I saw some pictures of tattoo, which looks like a copy of MacGregor's. There is also this Ventura 23 someone mentioned a couple of posts ago and the Nuva Yachts MS6 which I saw on Barcelona Boat Show this October.

Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Edgar

Welcome to our forum.

Many of us are eagerly awaiting the :tat22: the 26 is not being produced at this time. There are plenty of used ones for sale.

Just remember a motor sailor won't sail as fast as a conventional sailboat or motor as fast as an open fisherman.

The ability to do both is what we like. :)

Hi Edgar.

What are your needs ? Do you expect to just day sail, or go on overnighters?

The Macgregor's are great lake and river boats. There are some who cross the Gulf Stream and go to the Bahama's with them, and there are others who just like to sail.

Whenever a new motor sailer comes out, someone post about it. I don't believe any one of them (except the :tat26: ) ever compared well with the price point you can get a MacGregor for.

Where are you located?

Ray

If you tweak your profile to include your location, it's easier for someone near you to invite you down to see their boat. Jus' sayn'.

Also, an often unexpected expense when getting a Mac/Tatoo is that you haveta buy everyone here a pizza. Extra cheese on mine please. :P

Edgar,

From your "EdgarMalta" user name, the fact that you could just nip on over for a quick peek at the Barcelona Boat Show, and your über-Britty signing off with a hearty "Cheers" (in Yankeespeak that might be "Thanks"), I've gotta guess you may be a British expat in Valetta or nearby, yes? Maybe you vacation...I mean "holiday"...in the Balearics? Say, Mallorca? I hear they've got Watney's Red Barrel now, but still, shopping for sailboats around the Med's going to color your available choices.

There used to be a Macgregor dealership in Malta, and they also offered charters (with 26Ms), but what with Macgregor having ceased production a few years back, its website at http://www.macgregormalta.info has since gone dark. Still, if you DO reside in Malta, it seems you might do well to try to get in touch with them. Here's the proprietor's contact info, from a Google-cached version of their old website:

Benjamin Curmi

Mob 00356 79729203
Land line 00356 21582367
Email: bjc.mlt@hotmail.com or seablissmalta@hotmail.com

If you're NOT residing in Malta, but find yourself instead mysteriously in the Evening Star Trailer Court in Cozad, Nebraska, then you may wish to disregard the above suggestion.

You could be here now!

As for assessing the Macgregor Power-Sailor Breed, although the stench of "raw noob" yet waftes about me, having had my 2001 26X for only about a year, I couldn't be happier with my 26X, which I prefer layout-wise to the later 26M (which I probably couldn't have afforded anyhow, since they tend to run nearly twice what the older X's typically fetch in comparable condition). The 26X is the perfect boat for me for right now, bobbing around the shallow and shoally Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay. Whether it may be so eminently suitable for the moody Med, if that is indeed where you'll be sailing, is a matter for discussion among those saltier than I...preferably folks with real experience in the matter. That said, don't be dissuaded from considering a well-found Mac by fussbucket "real sailor" types who lurk on other sailing forums passing the time by "Mac Bashing" whilst the pine tar in their bowlined pubes dries. For one thing, such nay-sayers have, more often than not, never even set foot on one, let alone owned one.

Anyhow, welcome and happy hunting!

I also saw the Nuva in the Barcelona Show. They showed the second propotype (I sailed in the first), which has some improvements, for example, the way to raise and lower the rudder. The keel has a hidraulic mechanism for raising and lowering.

The cabin is small, I'd say it's even smaller than the :mac19: 's, but the cockpit is quite large. They have designed it as a day-sailor, rather than a cruiser.

The hull shape reminds me of some modern motorboats, like the Fjord and the De Antonio.

I think the issue will be the price. I didn't ask, as I plan to keep my :macx: for a long time, but I'm afraid it won't come cheap...
