The Mac Geometry is likely different for the M and trailer, improved over the X. Prob. the new M winch lines up better with the eye, pulling the boat so it settles forward better.

Another counter-intuitive thing ... the MacBump does not work so well if the winch strap or line to the bow eye has been tightened, because it pulls the bow down hard onto the trailer bunk in front, and binds the boat from sliding into final trailering position with its nose into the V-notch of the trailer. Temporarily ease off the winch pressure on the nose, and the intertial bump works easier.

I have owned several powerboats in my lifetime , most were bought used , two of them were brand new.

We researched a Mac 10 years before we bought , so we had 10 years to find something better , cheaper , or better suitedto our needs .
We bought a Mac.

While I agree the hulls are thin , and the trailers are'nt the best there is, overall , a Mac is the most boat for the money.

They are spartan boats , which lends themselves to modification. They have a high resale value , this is a mark of a boat that holds up well .

As the article in Heartland Boating called them , "the swiss army knife of boats " that are sooo verstale !

Gosh ..some of you guys must be VERY hard on your boats and the winch! I have put my boat... through .. no less than hull Twice! With No issues. My winch is, I assume the same as yours and it too is fine and holding up well..I have however never tried ( forgotten to empty the ballast) over loaded it..and it's a 2005.
Your Correct when you say or imply that a Seaward is nicer for 4 times the price..Dang so is the Island Packet : )
But as for New Boats? For the price? Its all I could ever imagine or realistically hope for, and It's Made In The USA! That's important to me.. So was my Mercury outboard.. I have added a lot of things to my boat but have as yet to need to replace anything that it came with IIRC.
Is my little sail boat , pulled by many here with a dang Mini Van....... even half ( structurally) the boat My brothers 12,000 lb. $150,000.00 +++ Shamrock is? NO! But it doesnt need a $30,000 trailer and despite what Chevy and Ford may claim about their Big Pick-Ups None of those will tow his boat or any boat of that size , any distance...
