Sorry your boat only does 18 mph. I'm not talking knots guys...mph.
Once on a plane with the trim adjusted just right...she was flying...going out and coming in.
I got some strange looks too.

cheers,

top speed at 4500 rpm pegged 28 mph w/o ballast. With ballast...25 mph.
LMAO

ROTFL

I would hazard a guess that you are using a water wheel for a speed indicator and not a GPS unit.

It needs calibration.

I don't know the prop specifications...but it gets up a goes well.

You have all this info to post but not the Prop Spec's ! :?

where did you get your speed info from :?:

were you running down 15ft swells with the tide running with you perhaps !

Yep you were justa a smoking right along but failed to share with the rest of us :D :D :D
You'll have to forgive my dry sense of humor :o but unless you had a towline attached to a !!!!!!! :P

See my original post here:
http://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/v ... 2&start=15...it's at the very end.

I correct myself...when I got up to 28mph, the engine was wide open...probably more like 5000 rpm.

Both my paddle-wheel and GPS were reading 28 mph. There was no current.

If you're really interested, I'll try to get the prop specs...I think the prop and the trim were key to the high speeds.

Here's the MacGregor homepage
http://www.macgregor26.com/powering_and ... wering.htm...they quote 24 mph. Either my GPS is faulty, or I'm getting a little better performance.

It's great to hear of the fun you're having with your new boat!
TexasDan40 wrote: My brand new 2010 50HP Tohatsu had to be broken in so after we left the no-wake zone...I thottled her up to 3500 rpm. At this level the new motor wasn't too loud and we easily made 12 mph...full ballast. After 1 hour of that, I took her up to 4000 rpm...18 mph(quite loud at this level). I did all this while on a close reach with both sails up...gotta lot of strange looks. The wind was pushing 12-15 knots...so it was breezy. Most boat were reefed and furled. In order to maintain stability, I had to put the rudders down, as there was quite a chop...I also had the keel about 1/2 way down. I killed the engine after about an hour and just sailed.

Wide open she achieved 28 mph...again rudders down and keel at 1/3 mark. With the keel all the way up, she was very unstable in the chop...so I left it down a 1/2.

However, on the blue highlighted points of your claims...I'm not buying! Even if your boat was the Mac-factory stripped down - kid at the helm - sales brochure version! And thinking of the potential safety compromises of such a picture! JMHO. Anyway, it did give me a laugh...would've of beenn better on April 1 tho! :D

Edit add: For SAFETY concerning the above practices, read the chapter on POWERING in the owners manual.

Hi Guys,

Was just wondering about peoples experiences with engine fitting.

Whats worked out best? Mac dealer fitted or by other engine suppliers?

I had professionals do it for me down in Kemah, Tx. $85/hour...+/- 5 hours...but well worth it for me.

Well, I thought that new Suzuki DF90ATL ()by the way, ratio is 2.59:1) would be the best choice for my new 26M, but it seems like performance is not much different from those of you with 50 or 60 hp.
The motor came with original prop 13.75x21, so it wouldn't do more than 3500rpm, after I finally found the smallest suzuki prop available for that motor (14x13) the rpm went up to 5500, no load or ballast, two people on board, speed was about 22knt (25,5mph), but with 6 people on board (ballast was probably in too) I was making about 19-20 knts (rpm around 5200).
Honestly, I expected a better performance, even though I know that by specs this motor's WOT rpm should be 5500-6300, so, if I find 14x11 prop it would probably improve my numbers, although the Suzuki dealer here in Russia told me that 14x13 is the smallest in the line of props for this engine :|

I am convinced that if you really want to break the sound barrier with an Mac, you will need a 2 stroke 140.

The 50/60 will not do what the specs say the boat will equipped with one.

IMHO the boat needs at least a 70 to be functional as a powerboat.

Not many of us have the water conditions to take advantage of a 140 anyways.

If your playground is a lake, on a calm day, barely a ripple, a 140 would be a dream come true.
6 adults, and still break 30 mph I would guess.
Nil ballast of course, as why would you need it?

I did a week cruise, nil mast, power boat only mode, and with the 1600cc merc 75 on the back, she was perfect.
I still wish I had the cash for a 140 though.

You can take it to a prop. shop and have it repitched, even put a cup in it. I have done this many times in other boat motors and very satisfied as they will do the calculations for you on there computer. We have two excellent prop. shops here in Cape Coral, FL.
I am going to have my prop. pitched changed to a 10 from a 11 on my 4 blade for a Honda bf50.
