Are you serious about selling your sails and rigging? I purchased a 96 and I need to replace the main sail and jib as well as the backstay.

18 HP to manage a motorboat-only Mac, with no sails at all ?
My own experience in boating in the Mac for 3 years proves to my satisfaction that isn't enough power to overcome the effects of even just moderate wind on the freeboard. Maybe on calm days it would be enough, but not enough to counter a strong cross wind.
