The crew IS the captain - that's why a wounded crew means the end of the race in the solo class. In the 2012 race on guy broke his ankle. A cargo ship had to rescue him.
No, sarcasm is good, I just did not want to offend you if you were serious,
There are some who would be making fun of the fact that I called the Skipper: "crew".
Some folks don't like it when you say the Skipper is part of the crew - I'm not one of those folks. We have a lot of those types over here in their Izod lacoste shirts that make fun of lowly types like me who have spent most of their sailing years as "crew". I know you are not one of them, but some people make a very clear distinction between what is 'skipper' and what is 'crew'.
I have only run into one person like that on this site, and based on your answer it looks like I will not be finding any others like him thank goodness.
Once, I had to use the radio to contact the Coast Guard for them to render assistance to a grounded boat. I was addressed as captain when U.S.C.G. thanked me. If I am captain to them, then I am CAPTAIN Did I let it go to my head
On my boat I,m the Skipper , crew , deckhand, navigator, chief cook & bottle washer , pilot , Galley & Head cleaner , maint, tech & when I start shouting out orders I look into the Mirror & make sure everyone is saluting me & only occasionally do I hear any back talk !
