In the late 60's I helped my Father do the same setup on his boat trailer so we could get to the next town after a bearing packed it in, a 1.5 ton boat really wears out a 10" diameter tree branch, hence the reason I travel with 2 sets of spare bearings, a spare hub and a pot of HD axle goop.
