The NRA publications provide excellent material. the America's 1st Freedom publication prints the stories that you will not find in the MSM about people who's lives were saved by their ability to defend themselves. It's very educational and will likely help make a determination of your needs based on facts not hyperbole and emotional ramblings.

ZAPATA - Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez, Jr. tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS armed pirates shot at a McAllen couple on Falcon Lake this afternoon. The husband and wife were jetskiing near Old Guerrero.

On their way back to shore, pirates in a boat pulled up next to them and started shooting at them. The husband was hit, possibly in the head. The woman tried to save him and ended up being at shot as well. She had to turn around and leave her husband in the water. She fears he's dead.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS has a crew heading to Falcon Lake right now.

Have to see what comes of this story.

This story is a perfect example why you should never marry a smart woman. If you make mad they will use there wit and charms, to get away with killing you. Moral of the story marry a dumb bimbo.

AUSTIN – The shooting of a U.S. citizen on Falcon Lake is definitely considered spillover violence.

That's the word tonight from the Texas governor's office in Austin. They are calling on Washington to send back up for south Texas Border Patrol Agents.

Here's a just- released statement:

"Every day drug and human traffickers exploit the southwest border...they are increasingly confrontational... which is illustrated by incidents of spillover violence...the governor has continued to urge this administration to...immediately deploy additional resources to the Texas-Mexico border, including 1,000 title 32 national guardsmen and predator drones."

Now, I do NOT WANT this to turn into a discussion of border politics... I post this only to show that this death may indeed to be part of a wider problem and therefore more closely related to the subject of protection on board.

If this is true, it's a real shocker and a hopefully the final wakeup call. I would have to think that the jet skis are significantly faster than boats with armed men. Wonder if they just got a 1 in a million shot.

To be true to the thread, the logistics of carrying weapons on a jet ski are somewhat problematic.

Well, I married a pretty woman - happier than I've ever been!
However, now that SONG is in my head and keeps going around and around!!

I would like to point out for those who may not have realized, that the couple who went jet-skiing were on a border lake with Mexico, and were actually travelling over to the Mexico side of the lake for sight-seeing. Needless to say, there are many reasons NOT to do what they did, starting with the limited jurisdiction of the police. Granted, it is no excuse for Mexican nationals to come out shooting - but from all the news reports, I would not call our border with Mexico one that is peaceful and secure.

I don't want anyone to think that I feel that the Falcon Lake story is a fair representation (unless you live along the border of Mexico!) and can be compared to overnighting in a sailboat in the "relative safety" of our home waters...BUT it does highlight the "helpless" feeling of being out on a boat with nowhere to go, no police to call, etc. which is one of the thoughts behind the post. My plan is to treat it as I would being at home at night, and with the same level of precaution. (hmmm...and maybe a tac light for my protective device)

Maybe I can come up with a "boat alarm" of some kind... (got the inventor wheels turning now)
