I was reading these names out to my wife. After reading 'Got Wind', the Admiral suggested:

Passing Wind

I had to laugh about that one. :P

I read a funny piece in 48 Degrees North, a Puget Sound sailing publication, on naming boats. The author was the owner of several previous boats, and had just bought a used sailboat. He and his wife were discussing renaming the boat, and having a hard time coming up with something suitable. He wanted something unique, but just couldn't think of a good boat name which was not likely to show up on another boat. Finally, in frustration and in a totally joking manner he said "Why don't we just call her "Dogbreath". To his great shock and surprise, his wife said "Yes, That's it! Dogbreath. We'll never see another boat with that name". No amount of backtracking could get him off the hook, and so "Dogbreath" it was. I guess the moral of the story is, be careful with flip comments.
When I was a kid, we had neighbors who really wanted a dog - all except the mom, who said "no." Finally, Dad and the boys decided to surprise her Christmas morning with a Great Dane pup. The plan was to name the dog the first thing she said... they quickly decided they couldn't stand out in the yard yelling that, however!

I cast my vote for "TexDan"

We couldnt decide either, so I just placed the lettered name, "Holub" on lexan strips, and nylon clipped them onto the bow pulpit. Anyway, this works well if another owner, or we decide on another name...easily removed.

Viewing boat names is a fun pass time here in Kemah, since there are so many boats with clever names. Some, a little kinky, some real runny. But, all are interesting.

...and yes...there is one locally named, "passing wind" :D

I, too am in that situation. Just bought a 26S and son came up with a catchy name to reflect my business also. My wife can't stand it. We want to call her
"THE FAMILY JEWELS" to reflect our jewelry business, but my wife put her foot down hard when a buddy came by and hung a pair of fuzzy balls on the railing. :D

time too put my two cents in. One of the wife's and I mutually agreeable favorite songs is Moondance by Van Morrison. I can see us sailing on a warm evening with a bright moon in the sky. Even in October here in New England. Also since I have learned from this site that the blue hull is faster you might see a moon as we dance past you at speed. Regards to all Moondancer :macm:

I am an engineer and my wife was a diploma nurse till her mid-40s when she went
back to school on line and got her degree too. Boats name is: Two Degrees Out
When Greg explained this is how he named their boat I was Skeptical.
I think there was an unspeakable navigation error he's trying to cover up
with a good back story, but who knows!

I hope to go through this whole naming process real soon. I am in the market for an "x" or "m". Just have to sell my airplane first. Anyway, my first larger sailboat was an old Santana 21. My wife is not a fan and suggested "Blow Me". I shortened it to "Blo Me" with some appropriate (clean) graphics. It did raise some eyebrows among the more conservative at the dock but got lots of thumbs up from passers on the highway. It was sort of funny on the radio but no one complained. When I sold the boat the new buyers were unsure if they would keep the name or not.

So, now if am successful in finding a new boat it will probably be "Blo Me Too" or "Blo Me Again" or "Blo Me Also". Also considering "Audacity". I doubt that I will ask my wife for her suggestion this time.

I would suggest that any name that might be appropriate for a British "74" of Nelson's day is, shall we say, rather audacious to put on a pleasure-cruiser like our boats. For example - my first sailboat, a Mac 19, had been named "Intrepid" by the PO's. That's a great name for an aircraft carrier ... but a 19-foot just-barely-more-than-daysailer? I couldn't get that name off fast enough!
