Actually, I think the count is somewhere around 14,000. We do have a lot of great sailing lakes for larger boats, it's just that the ones near major cities are crowded and slips are expensive.

Your right, I'm not unhappy with the Mac, it's the facilities at our local lakes that frustrate me. Docks are too busy to use for set up or they are floating and subject to wakes. Most of the ramps are run buy the DNR and I just assume they would be apposed to cutting any trees. One private marina on a lake that boats great for sailing does not allow sailboats 26' and over to launch, and none on weekends or holidays. The only other ramp is very shallow with prop eating rocks.

When I get my bottom painted I will most likely get a slip about 1 1/2 hrs away and I will be happy.

Lucky for you the Macgregor is 25 feet 10 inches. I have gotten out my registration before to prove it to someone before too. I refuse to pay a more expensive launch fee for a 26’ foot, when I am not. :)

That does really suck on the launches though. I too have that problem. Ideally I would drive over to Lake Geneva, 30 minutes away and launch, but they do not have the faculties or the parking to allow this on the weekends and even most week days. So I went over to Lake Michigan a 1.5 hour drive.

Not the Macs, but the local facilities ...

Any state's Department of Natural Resources would be less-likely to oppose "sailboat friendly landscaping" than we might think. It might take a lot of soft-selling, perhaps through your elected state-house representative, to get it done.

An important topic might be that "it's not very safe to have sailboats set up their masts & rigging while they're afloat. It would be a lot safer to have a rigging area where we could do this before we launch. It would also let us get off the dock much quicker, which would help everyone who's using your ramps."

Public ramps can indeed be a zoo! My most-notable experience with at Gravelly Point, on the Potomac by Washington DC, the Sunday before Easter. It was SO packed with people just out to picnic and enjoy the day, that it was very difficult to find a parking place to rig my boat - hard again to find a place to leave the truck-and-trailer after I launched - and damn near impossible to find a parking place where I could de-rig Bossa Nova before I went home.

I now have Bossa Nova trailered in the boatyard of a marina that has its own ramp, on an inlet that flows into the Chesapeake Bay, an hour from my house ... it's much cheaper than a wet slip, I can leave the mast up, and it's in a great place to go sailing and even anchor out overnight. The whole Bay is in my reach from here. I don't plan to take her out of there until they close the ramp for the winter - and then, only to take her down to Florida and do a good share of "snowbird"-ing.

I am an unhappy :macm: owner...because I haven't seen König since 1 Jan 2009...and haven't even been on the same continent.

But I will be back on board on Monday...can't wait. In fact I may just swing by the storage yard on Sunday night on our way from the airport just to give it a hug.

Of course the time has gone fast because I have the white hull... :D

Cheers,
Jim

Wow , she is good and I declare her my music discovery of 2009. She's just the kind of girl I like to have signing in my boat...surrounded as it is by fench speaking sailors in my 100% french speaking marina. Thanks for the clip. Is she from Texas? I once knew a girl from Texas and am still 35 years latter under her charm.

In the US, lawyers dont actually make that much. There is a lot of focus on the guys at the top, tort awards etc but the average salary is about 96K - 7-8 years of schooling required of course.

"A good source for informationon this subject is the June 2004 edition of Canadian Lawyer magazine (available at most law libraries). The magazine's national compensation survey reports that:

the national mid-range for an articling student is $57,110 to $64,970.
the national mid-range average for first-year associate salaries is between $74,630 and $92,330.
the mid-range average for first-year lawyers in Ontario is $56,500 to $99,270."

I don't know how they are calculating mid-ranges (statistics isn't my strongest suit) but those numbers look close to the USA numbers, and they're several years old. I quess I , more often than I should, base my comments on my perception of reality raher than reality eh!

But S/V Bossa Nova doesn't do country ... at least not Texas country.

Permit me to offer an alternative:

Bebel Gilberto's "Azul", on YouTube as well - didn't have any video of her. And she is ... So Nice ...

I was reading a note that the marina wouldn't allow 26' sailboats. No problem for the Mac. this boat is 25' 10". Check your owen model true spec. not the adertisement banner.
