Ok, I recieved my Navpod today and so far so good. It is model PP4700.I will admit it was a little expensive but it will have a clean look to it when done. Another advantage to the Navpod is that it will add a LITTLE more security to the electronics (from being stolen). The image below has room for a small bulkhead or in dash compass (about 4") or additional guage. I am undecided yet.
Weather here prevented me from a on boat try in.
Also planned is some LED lighting to illuminate the cockpit mounted in the underside of the Navpod.

This is my rudder sensor install on my 2003 26Ml. As you can see by the level on the connecting arm it is not quite level....but it was such a hassle to get to that point that I am going to go with the set up as it stands.

I have just started to install my S1 autopilot in my 2002

. I can't figure out how to fit the rudder indicator. My Honda 50 hp outboard and all its associated linkage for steering is external in the motor well. All the photos shown on this forum seem to be for internal linkage. Can anyone please help -advice, photos.etc.
Also, I plan to mount the compass inside on the bulkhead between the for'd end of the settee and dinnette. Any comments or better location suggestions?
Ed

Ed,
See my post dated Sun Apr 05, 2009 7:44 am on this thread to see the way I installed the rudder sensor on my 02X.
I can take additional photos for more clarity if you need them.
Good Luck
Ken
On edit: I'll read the rest of your post now and add, Here is my "Brains" install. The Controller and the Rate Gyro are mounted on the forward side of the starboard cockpit bench seat. These look directly at the rear head wall.

Ed, I am in the middle of an S1 install on my 01 X. I have mounted the rudder sensor on a piece of 3x3 stainless steel 1/4" angle, mounted on the transom, just to the right of my Honda OB, connected to the starboard rudder bracket.

You want to put it as low as possible, so that the arm just clears the deck. This way I will not interfer with the rudder and motor control linkage.
I have also moved my tach, which was mounted just below the steering wheel. Using pedestal fitting kit Raymarine E15017, the motor will mount inside the pedestal, which makes for a very clean installation.
Hope this helps. Harry

Does this sound ..sound the same on your S1?
I am installing the wheel part of the S1 wheel pilot and I find that now when I turn the wheel on my M I can hear the plastic on the wheel pilot assembly making a plastic against plastic sound when I turn the wheel. It does not catch any wheres and it is a smooth sound but it is the sound of the outer plastic cover rubbing against the inner plastic cover. I noticed there is a screw on the outside back of the plastic wheel with gradient markings on it !
Will fiddle with it and see, but would appreciate it if someone would let me know if they have extra plastic on plastic sounds after installing the plastic S1 wheel on their boat wheel?

leon, what other gadgets did you hook up with the S1? i have had a look at the technical page and it indicates that you can only hook up one NMEA unit,i was hoping to hok up my chartplotter and wind/direction gizmo.

That's normal, as long as the wheel turns freely. The adustment screw is for the clutch. Careful with that... it's a finnaky adjustment. If everything turns smoothly and the clutch holds properly, no adjustment is necessary. The plastic sound is somehting to just get used to. I believe it gets quieter with use (kind of breaks in) Either that or you just learn to tune it out.

I have my GPS/Plotter/Sounder and wind gizmo hooked up. The AP has one NMEA in, one NMEA out, both used for the GPS. The wind gizmo goes through the Seatalk port which also provides it with power. The other Seatalk port is for the AP control head. The control head has another NMEA input you can use if you want to hook up another gadget, but it's input only (no output) so it would have to be something where one-way communication is acceptable i.e. wind gizmo would work for such application. If you have more gadgets, you might need a bigger boat

Or getting one of those network consoles for mucho denero.

Thanks Leon,
From what you say I can't just plug my gps into the control head of my S1 ...like I was planning to do, I have to hook it up to the computor??????.

Bertrand,
Correct. There is only one Seatlak port on the control head and it runs to the computer. Make sure you use both NMEA in +/- & out +/- running GPS to AP computer. Four wires total. This allows the AP to communicate wit the GPS for tracking plus the AP can send its compass reading back to the GPS, giving you heading data. Without that, your GPS will only give you course data (direction the boat is traveling) vs. heading data (direction the bow is pointing) It's great having both.

i am thinking of hooking up the gps/chartplotter to the computer, the depth/fish finder to the chartplotter and the wind gizmo to the sea talk on the computer,i can see me having to play around with the wind gizmo, mine also does barometric pressure.
where do i hook up the beer cooler?
im really looking forward to having the AP,ive ordered a new CP,main sail, spinnaker and 18 inch destroyer wheel, dangg apart from the engine and hull ill have a new boat.
my possible future mods are AIS reciever,FM/VHF splitter and a seeme(radar transponder),then ill reinforce the keel and rudders
my daughter has asked for provision for her hair straighteners so i guess that means a igger battery bank

Do I use the regular 14 gauge wire or some other kind of wire to connect the GPS to the S1 computor?
